Community guidelines
When you use Bookd, you join a community of football fans from all over the world! We want to foster a safe and open space for this community connected by the beautiful game. Please help us by following our Community Guidelines.
In our Community Guidelines, you can learn what is fine, what gets you a warning and what gets you suspended or banned.
The short
We know that football is passionate and opinionated; otherwise, football would not be football. Banter, criticism of players and managers, hot takes, salty post-match reviews, calling for someone to be sacked and swearing are all welcome within certain limits. We are not expecting you to be diplomatic.
However, when these actions become imbued with directed hatred, violence, excessive sexuality and illegal content, they create a space people dread to enter. We want to keep Bookd a space for fans to celebrate and honour their memories and experiences with football.
The long
Hate speech and slurs
Hate speech and slurs targeting race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender, sexuality, disability or any protected group.
Mocking a specific public figure — a politician, a controversial historical figure — for their actions is criticism. Attacking Muslims, Jews or any religious group as a whole is hate speech.
- Allowed:“Pogba was dogshit today”
- Allowed:“Refs in the Premier League are a joke”
- Allowed:Making fun of Bin Laden or Netanyahu for their actions and rhetoric
- Not allowed:Any racial slur about a player, a fan or anyone else
- Not allowed:“Spurs fans are mentally [slur]”
- Not allowed:Islamophobic or antisemitic generalisations (“Muslims are X”, “Jews are Y”)
Politics and stereotyping
Bookd is a football-first platform; conversations should centre around football and not politics. Healthy discussions are welcome, but slating a country’s people and saturating match discussions with heated debates regarding elections, wars or foreign policy are not allowed.
- Allowed:“England fans have never known joy”
- Allowed:“Argentina still living off ’78 and ’86”
- Allowed:“USA don’t understand football”
- Not allowed:Stereotyping an entire nationality with negative traits (“all X are Y”)
- Not allowed:Turning a match thread into a debate about elections, wars or foreign policy
- Not allowed:Political rants unrelated to the game
Targeted harassment
Personal attacks on another user. This rule includes pile-ons, repeated targeting across threads, telling someone to harm themselves and doxxing of any kind.
- Allowed:“Spurs fans this season have been brutal”
- Allowed:Disagreeing strongly in one heated reply
- Not allowed:“@user kys you Spurs clown”
Threats of violence
Any threat, against any person or group.
- Not allowed:“I hope Saka gets injured”
- Not allowed:“If I ever see that ref I will […]”
Self-injury
We do not allow the glorification or encouragement of self-injury, including eating disorders. If you are struggling with self-injury, you do not have to face it alone; reach out to someone you trust or a crisis line in your area.
Sexual and illegal content
Sexual content means pornography, graphic sexual descriptions, soliciting sexual services or sharing someone’s intimate images without their consent. This rule also covers graphic gore and promoting illegal goods or services.
Thirsty one-liners and innuendo about players are fine. Nonconsensual sexual comments aimed at another user are harassment.
- Allowed:“He can do whatever he wants to me” about a player
- Not allowed:Explicit, graphic descriptions of sexual acts
- Not allowed:Sexual comments directed at another user
Disallowed GIFs
Rules applying to text apply to GIFs. Sexual, graphic, violent or slur-carrying GIFs are not allowed, and sending them to another user is harassment.
- Allowed:Celebration or reaction GIFs
- Allowed:Meme reactions and match highlight clips
- Not allowed:Explicit sexual or nudity GIFs
- Not allowed:MPREG or other fetish-themed GIFs
- Not allowed:Graphic gore, violence or self-harm imagery
- Not allowed:GIFs carrying slurs or hate imagery
- Not allowed:Sending sexual GIFs at another user
Minors
Sexual, predatory or otherwise inappropriate content involving anyone under 18 — whether a player, public figure or another user — is not allowed. CSAM gets a permanent ban with no appeal.
Spam and manipulation
This rule includes repeated identical posts, off-topic commercial promotion, fake engagement (sockpuppet accounts, mass-likes, vote rings) and nonconsensually mass-tagging users.
Message walls
Message walls are messages that consume significant screen space without contributing to conversations. Splitting a word letter by letter across many lines, walls of new lines, ASCII art and oversized emoji stacks push other messages off screen and interrupt conversations.
- Not allowed:One letter per line spelling out a word (L / A / B / U / B / U)
- Not allowed:Multiple blank lines used to fill the screen
- Not allowed:ASCII art or oversized emoji stacks in a live match chat
Like farming
Repeated like farming is not allowed. Like-farming content is engineered to accumulate likes instead of contributing to conversation. An example of like-farming content is asking users to tap the like button as a vote.
- Not allowed:“Like this if you think X”
- Not allowed:“X is better than Y button --->”
- Not allowed:“X Y Z button --->”
- Not allowed:“1 like = X”
Betting promotion
This rule covers pushing betting sites, “DM me for tips” solicitation, coordinated tipster posts, screenshotting slips as sales and any coded version of the same (“DM for the play”).
- Allowed:“Put my fiver on 2-1, come on lads”
- Allowed:Mentioning that odds moved in passing during discussion
- Not allowed:“🔥 DM me for today’s locks”
- Not allowed:Repeated slip screenshots framed as a sales pitch
- Not allowed:Coordinated posts promoting a betting site or tipster service
Off-topic club arguments
This rule mainly applies to live match chats. Once a match kicks off, heated dialogue between fans of clubs that aren’t playing clutters the discussion for everyone trying to watch the match.
Pre-match dialogue is looser; off-topic football content is allowed.
- Allowed:Discussing another club’s transfer news or result pre-match
- Allowed:Quick aside in passing during a live match (“thanking god this isn’t a top-six game”)
- Not allowed:Multi-message rivalry back-and-forth during a live match
- Not allowed:Repeatedly bringing up an unrelated club to bait their fans mid-game
- Not allowed:Treating a live match thread as a venue for your own club rivalry
Misinformation
Misinformation includes fake goal calls and other false match events in live discussion, fabricated transfer scoops, invented quotes attributed to players or staff and made-up injury and lineup reports. Speculation, rumour-sharing and opinion do not fall under this rule.
- Allowed:“Saka looks injured — anyone seeing the same?”
- Allowed:“Rumour going around that City want X — take it with a pinch of salt”
- Allowed:“I think Pep walks at end of season”
- Not allowed:“GOOOAL” with no actual goal
- Not allowed:“Red card to X” when no red card was shown
- Not allowed:Made-up quote attributed to a player or manager
Impersonation
Do not pretend to be a real person, club, league, journalist or another Bookd user. This rule includes copying someone’s username, avatar or bio to look like them, posting fake transfer scoops under a journalist’s name or claiming to represent an organisation you do not. Fan accounts and usernames close to a well-known person or club are fine; do not act like them.
Keep it about football
Bookd is a football-first platform. Tangents are more tolerable in a game chat when the game isn’t on. Once kickoff hits, sustained off-topic derailing clutters the thread.
Privacy
Do not share private information about another user, including their real name (if they have not shared it), location, employer, phone and family. Public figures receive the same protection for anything private.
Ban evasion
If your account is banned and you create a new account to circumvent the ban, that is a banning offence.
What happens when you break a rule
We use three tiers depending on severity and history. Each report is evaluated case-by-case by the Bookd team; examples are not comprehensive.
Warning
A warning entails a notification and mark on your user document; however, you are not restricted.
Can be triggered by:
- Light name-calling that does not cross into harassment
- Spammy posting or off-topic noise
- A first low-severity incident where intent reads as careless rather than malicious
Suspension
A suspension restricts your account from posting or interacting for a set period. You can still browse Bookd.
Triggered by:
- Targeted harassment of another user
- Repeated spam or manipulation
- Repeated warnings for the same behaviour
Ban
Your account is permanently deleted, and you cannot sign back up.
Triggered by:
- Posting sexual or illegal content
- Sharing someone’s personal information
- Ban evasion
How we moderate
Two principles run every decision:
- Intent and context matter. The same words can be banter between two fans ribbing each other or a targeted attack. We read the thread around the report before we decide.
- History counts. A first slip is treated differently from a repeat pattern. Warnings escalate; three of the same is a suspension conversation.
In live match chats, we lean toward speed over perfect judgement. Expect a lighter touch on borderline banter — the pace makes over-moderation feel unfair — and a heavier hand on anything that scales badly across thousands of fast messages: spam, coordinated toxicity, pile-ons, misinformation and betting promotion.
We are a small team, we will not always get every call right and appeals exist for that.
Appeals
Reach out to support@bookdfootball.com. We will re-evaluate the report. Refrain from resubmitting the same appeal; the outcome will be the same.
Reporting
Click the three dots at reviews and lists and long-press comments and chat messages to report. Pick a category, add context if necessary and submit. Reports are anonymous to the person you are reporting.
We aim to action reports within 24 hours.
Changes
When we change enforcement, we will update this page. Subsequently, we will send an announcement notification.
Thank you for playing a part in keeping Bookd safe and open!
