When I think of this game what do I think of? Hope Perseverance Adversity Belief Unity The indomitable human spirit Japan, the team that knocked us out the year before, the best team in Asia, the team expected to win the whole tournament. Against us, the team that went life and death with Syria, and stunk it up against Hong Kong in the groups. I thought we were so fuckedddddd. I woke up at 7:30 am for this, I remember me in the 7th grade watching the game against Japan in absolute shock and despair. More than anything I wanted us to win this. When Japan scores their first goal I was so stressed. I knew we needed something, chance after chance missed, untill mohebi scores. Mohebi was such a hot prospect at this time and this goal alone made me overrate him for the following 3 years LOL. Then the moment, AJ in the box gets fouled and lines up for a penalty. For so long Iran has always failed to make the chances happen in the last minute, taremi against Portugal, Ghoddos against the USA, even Shoja against Egypt in this past World Cup. But, he scored. He scored, my hero scored. I started CRYING my mom is telling me to calm down but im in front of my tv literally sobbing tears of joy. I was so overwhelmed with emotion that literally the only moment I could think of that had me feeling like this was our goal against wales, but even this had its own unique moment to it, it gave me hope that we were going to win. At a time in which Iran was at a low point due to whatever the circumstances of the world was, I thought that having an AC would be something that could bring us joy at such a low moment, and for a while it did. This is by far and away my highest point as a football fan, and I haven’t felt joy like this since, not with any personal achievements or anything, this was the last time I was this happy.
