Six Pointer Showdown in Mexico City

Theo
by Theo@theolovesvilla · 11 Sept 2026
It's Matchday 8 of the Liga MX season! Atlante and Pachuca are looking for a late place to enter Liguilla, however inconsistency within both camps may damage either chances. Atlante come into this with a winless run of 6 games (D2 L4) in all competitions, their last win coming on 5th August against Vancouver Whitecaps in the Leagues Cup, a 0-1 away win where Jhojan Julio scored to differ the two sides. Their last and only league win came a few days before that, a thrilling 2-3 away win against Cruz Azul. Piojo's side will be looking to get back to winning ways, however they suffer with injury doubts to veteran keeper David Ospina and midfielder Hardy Meza. Pachuca managed a win last time out against strugglers Juarez, a comfortable 0-2 away win with goals from talisman Salomon Rondon and Alán Bautista to seal the victory. They are unbeaten in 3 (W1 D2) but suffered 5 losses in the previous 7 before that in all competitions. Coach Benjamín Mora will be looking to increase the small gap between Pachuca and Atlante, being only 1 point between them. Pachuca suffer with injury blows to Colombian midfielder Andrés Arroyo and young attacker Alexéi Dominguez. In the last 5 competitive meetings between the 2 sides, it has been split, with 2 wins for each side and a 1-1 draw. The last Liga MX match between the two was a 0-1 away win for Atlante in February 2014. 12 years ago! Much more recently, Atlante also defeated Pachuca 0-4 in a friendly of December 2025. Liga MX has to be one of the most underrated leagues in the world! Any football fanatics who are able to stay up for any of these matches, I wouldn't miss out if I were you!

Atlante vs Pachuca is the Apertura - 8 of Liga MX 2026/27. Atlante FC sit 14th in the table, while CF Pachuca sit 12th.
