It's Sunday night at Estadio Victoria in Aguascalientes as Necaxa face Club América. This is the last match of matchday 10 before the league pauses for the international break after playing through the first week of three. Necaxa come into this game on the back of a 3-1 loss to Atlético de San Luis in San Luis Potosí. After the disastrous season Necaxa have been having, they sacked Uruguayan manager Martín Varini following their defeat to Puebla and hired Peruvian manager Juan Reynoso as his successor. Reynoso, who previously helped Cruz Azul lift their first league title in 20 years, will look to improve results and do his best to help lead his new team to a spot in the Liguilla. Although he lost his first game in charge, the possibilities of Los Rayos reaching the Liguilla aren't impossible when looking at other teams near the bottom half of the table. Standing in their way is Club América, who will look to take advantage of Toluca and Chivas both dropping points in yesterday's matches to head into the international break in 1st place. Las Águilas are currently winless in their last four matches across all competitions, meaning they have yet to win in September. Losing on penalties to Monterrey in the Leagues Cup semifinal, followed by a loss to León in the third-place match, was not a good way to start the month. Things got worse when they lost 4-3 in the Clásico Joven against city rivals Cruz Azul — from being down 3-0 at halftime, they managed to score three in the second half, two of them in stoppage time, though in the end it wasn't enough. América come into this match after a spectacular 2-2 draw in the Clásico Nacional against Chivas. Down 0-2 at halftime, Miguel Borja scored twice in three minutes to equalize the match and erase everything Chivas had done in the first half, one of the goals an incredible bicycle kick that could very well be nominated for the Puskás Award. In both of those previous matches, defensive errors were a major issue, leaving América behind at halftime each time. However, Almada will finally be able to count on new defensive signings Santiago Bueno and Santiago Ramos Mingo to help sort out the defense. Many will look at the table and assume this should be an "easy" match for América but this past week's results suggest anything can happen. Since Liga MX continued into the first of three weeks of the international break, Club América will be missing Brian Rodríguez, Óscar Perea, and Isaías Violante for this match, as all three were called up by their respective national teams. Necaxa will look to take advantage of an América side missing key attacking players and hope to turn their season around. Meanwhile, Club América will look to head into the international break as league leaders.

Necaxa 2-4 Club America was played in the Apertura - 10 of Liga MX 2026/27. Necaxa sit 17th in the table, while Club America sit 2nd.
