Unbeaten Liverpool host winless Fulham in Anfield clash
Liverpool will seek to continue their unbeaten start to the season with a home game against winless Fulham. The visitors are one of only two sides yet to pick up a single point in the league, so they’ll be desperate to get off the mark in this one.
After a pair of unconvincing 2-2 draws, Liverpool seem to have hit their stride under Iraola. Alexander Isak’s brace saw off Ipswich in the first 10 minutes of their last domestic outing, while Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister helped the Reds to a comeback win against Atletico in midweek. That was Liverpool’s first win at Anfield this season as they announced their European ambitions by seeing off last season’s semi-finalists.
Fulham’s only win this season came in the EFL Cup against League One Wimbledon. Defeats to Chelsea, Sunderland and Crystal Palace have left Arbeloa’s men 19th in the Premier League. Last weeks game against Palace was particularly frustrating; having led twice, the Cottagers left empty handed.
Surprisingly, Fulham have been a bit of a bogey team for Liverpool in recent years. The Reds have only won 2 of their last 6 games against Fulham (D3 L1). However, the last meeting between the two ended in Liverpools favour with a 2-0 home win in April.
In terms of team news, Bradley Barcola, Cody Gakpo and Milos Kerkez are all doubtful for Liverpool. Barcola and Kerkez were both substituted in midweek with apparent injuries, but Andoni Iraola has insisted that it was nothing more than cramp for both players. He admitted he was unsure if either would be ready for the weekend. Cody Gakpo missed that game and is still doubtful. Fulham have no new injury concerns, with captain Tom Cairney still the only one missing out.
