Brentford host chaotic Chelsea in Friday night clash

This weekend’s Premier League action gets underway at the Gtech Community Stadium as 7th place Brentford host 6th place Chelsea. The visitors go into Friday night’s game just a point above the hosts. It’s fair to say Chelsea have had a chaotic start to the season, for better or worse. The Blues are certainly not struggling to find the net, scoring 18 goals in 6 games in all competitions, an average of 3 per game. But keeping them out at the other end has been a much more difficult task. Only Ipswich Town, Coventry City and Crystal Palace have conceded more than Chelsea’s 9 in the Premier League. That stat that is deeply worrying for Xabi Alonso’s side, who will look to bounce back after some comical defending led to a (partial) mauling from Hull City last week. Where Chelsea have been chaotic this season, Brentford have been stable. After their opening weekend demolition of Spurs, the Bees’ have remained unbeaten, drawing all 3 subsequent league fixtures against Leeds, Sunderland and Bournemouth. Those stalemates have left them in a healthy position, but Keith Andrews will lament not turning them into wins after his side were pegged back after leading in all 3 of those draws. The last 4 games between these two where Brentford have been at home have all been draws, so another deadlock could be coming up here. For Chelsea, keeping a clean sheet will be as important a task as winning the game. They haven’t done so in the Premier League in 20 games, with their sole clean sheet in 2026 coming at home to Friday’s opponents in a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge in January. In team news, Brentford could see Fabio Carvalho back in action in the league for the first time since last November after he returned from an ACL injury to score the winner in the Carabao Cup against Reading on Tuesday night. They are still without club captain Nathan Collins, as well as Sepp van den Berg and Josh Dasilva. Chelsea are still missing crucial midfielder Moises Caicedo and new signings Marco Palestra and Jordan Henderson. Striker Joao Pedro is also a doubt after he pulled out of the Brazil squad with an apparent knee issue, but Xabi Alonso has refused to rule him out until a late fitness test on Friday morning. FPL managers, make of that what you will. Remember, this is the last weekend of club football until mid-October as international fixtures take over for the next 2 weeks. You’ll want to take in every game you can this weekend, and here is a great place to start.

Brentford 3-0 Chelsea was played on matchday 5 of Premier League 2026/27. Brentford sit 4th in the table, while Chelsea sit 6th.
