Pensioners look to pop vulnerable Cherries as club football returns

Club football returns to Stamford Bridge after the mammoth international break as Chelsea host Bournemouth. The break came at the perfect time for both sides who have struggled early in the season. Chelsea’s last outing was an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at Brentford, a match that caused me to go into genuine psychosis and bake loads of cookies. Bournemouth are yet to win a Premier League game this season under new manager Marco Rose, with 3 draws and 2 defeats so far. Chelsea should see a reprieve to their previously depleted options in this one as Moises Caicedo is available for selection again. The Ecudorian has featured only once this season, a brief cameo against Brentford in August, so his return is a huge boost for the Blues struggling midfield. Marco Palestra is also in contention for his first competitive start, while Cole Palmer, Reece James and Joao Pedro are all available as well after pulling out of international duty. The team news fares much less positively if you’re a Bournemouth fan. Young star Alex Scott is a doubt after pulling out of the England camp with an injury in the 7-0 win in Croatia, a loss that could leave them vulnerable in midfield. David Brooks has returned to training though, and could feature. Last season there was nothing to seperate these sides with both meeting ending in stalemates. Both matches were played in December, with a goalless draw at the Vitality followed by a dramatic 2-2 at the Bridge 3 weeks later. The latter game would turn out to be Enzo Maresca’s last game in charge of Chelsea, as he was sacked 2 days later. Will the Chelsea pensioners get back to winning ways, or can Bournemouth finally kickstart their season?

Chelsea 5-1 Bournemouth was played on matchday 6 of Premier League 2026/27. Chelsea sit 6th in the table, while Bournemouth sit 18th.
