Only one team can get 2/2 wins, will it be the red of Liverpool, or the Blue of North London?
Gareth Taylor's second season in charge started almost as well as it could have. Liverpool won their opening game 4-0 against newly promoted Charlton Athletic. Grace Fisk scored the first 2 of the game, with the first coming just 8 minutes into their WSL campaign. Vivien Endemann, one of Liverpool's summer signings, scored the third. To the delight of Liverpool, Charlton's struggle deepened when they gave away a very late penalty, which was converted by Cornelia Kapocs to end the game.
Over the summer transfer window, Liverpool invested heavily, signing goalkeeper Khiara Keating from WSL champions Manchester City. From Frauen-Bundesliga side FC Köln, they signed centre-back Sara Agrež, and from VfL Wolfsburg they signed left winger Vivien Endemann. From the WSL2, they signed Bristol City left back Mari Ward. Natalia Ramos was added to bolster the reds midfield from UD Tenerife of the Liga F. Left winger Anna Jøsendal joined the reds from Swedish club Hammarby IF in the Damallsvenskan. Forward Mao Itamura made the move from Vrouwen Eredivisie side Feyenoord after two very successful seasons for the Dutch side. Midfielder Izzie Breen signed her first professional contract this summer, after going through the youth teams at the club.
Tottenhams second season under Martin Ho started very successfully. His team beat West Ham 3-1 in their opening match. Signe Gaupset scored the opener for Spurs, with Kirsty Hanson scoring a brace to give the Lilywhites a 3-0 lead. West Ham managed to score a consolation goal to avoid complete embarrassment in the 90+3rd minute through Viviane Asseyi.
Spurs also improved their squad a great deal over the summer, signing goalkeeper Selma Panengstuen from Brann in the Norwegian Toppserien. They also signed centre-back Alice Sombath from Première Ligue side OL Lyonnes. From Frauen-Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg, they signed centre-back Caitlin Dijkstra. A controversial signing from North London rivals, Arsenal, saw them sign midfielder Victoria Pelova, also from the WSL (though much less controversial), they signed strikers Kirsty Hanson from Aston Villa, and Shekiera Martinez, from West Ham. Midfielder Jhanaie Dezire-Pierre is continuing her Spurs journey after signing her first professional contract.
These teams have played 10 games and are very evenly matched across them, with Liverpool having 3 wins, Spurs having 4, and 3 draws. Most recently was a 2-0 win for Liverpool in last seasons WSL, after a Mia Enderby brace in stoppage time, scoring in the 90+4th and 90+5th.
History shows us this will be an exciting matchup between two very even teams. Spurs performed much better last season finishing in 5th with Liverpool 11th, just 8 points above relegation, but both teams have started this season very well. Will history repeat itself with Liverpool getting the better of Spurs, or can Spurs hold off the reds and secure a victory for themselves?
Liverpool W 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur W was played on matchday 2 of FA WSL 2026/27. Liverpool W sit 6th in the table, while Tottenham Hotspur W sit 4th.
