A stop in “hell” for La Blaugrana on the road to Madrid
On Tuesday, Turkish giants Galatasaray will welcome FC Barcelona. However, with their fans’ reputation, it’ll be a very intimidating welcome. Anytime Galatasaray plays a European giant, the atmosphere is incredible, often being dubbed “Welcome to Hell”. Barcelona look to escape hell with another 3 points and look to be 10/10, being the most in-form team in the top 5 leagues.
The last time these two clubs met wasn’t even in the Champions League; it was the Europa League, a time both clubs want to forget. The last time they met in the Champions League was almost 24 years ago on November 13th, 2002, Barcelona coming out on top 3-1 at the Camp Nou. Out of the 10 past match-ups, Barca have far and away been the better between the two, winning 6 and scoring twice as many goals. Galatasaray have 1 win and 9 goals scored all-time; the win came in 1994, nearly 32 years ago.
Galatasaray hope to have star striker Victor Osimhen back to full fitness if they want a chance of beating la Blaugrana. Even after 3 games out with injury, Osimhen remains the club’s top scorer with 6 goals. They’ve also lost their undefeated streak, losing their first game without him vs Sporting. Since his injury, they’ve gone 2-2 in their last 4 matches. It’s obvious the attack is lost without him, even with summer signing Rafael Leao on the wing. This is also a reunion match for many players on Barcelona with Gundogan. Gundo, who played with Rodri and Gabriel at Man City and also played with almost the entire Barca squad in his one year with the club.
La Blaugrana unfortunately will be without their top scorer, Raphinha. Although he is expected to return for this upcoming weekend, fans have to go another game without seeing him on the pitch. Their second top scorer and the current Balon de Oro favorite, Lamine Yamal, will be available, alongside Gabriel Jesus and Anthony Gordon, both of whom scored this past weekend in a 3-0 win vs Getafe. Their last 4 matches before the international break were nothing short of dominant. Raphinha scoring a hat-trick two games in a row, a 7-2 win over Racing Santander, and a 5-1 win over Feyenoord. It’s hard to look past this Barca team and not think this match won’t be a lopsided match. Barcelona easily look like the favorites to win this match regardless of the intense atmosphere. You can count on the most loyal Culers to travel to Istanbul and support their players.
If Osimhen does return for the match, it would drastically improve the attack, and with Barcelona’s shaky defense, an early goal wouldn’t be a shock to us, but it could be enough to come out with a win. However, if Barcelona can get the ball rolling early, only scoring 2-3 goals against the home side would be considered mercy.
Galatasaray 1-4 Barcelona was played on matchday 2 of Champions League 2026/27. Galatasaray sit 35th in the table, while Barcelona sit 2nd.
