Before i watched this i thought this was going to have that moment where Nani robs Ronaldo from a crazy goal but it was a friendly later in the year Billed as the match of the round and somehow delivered the tensest 1-0 you’ll ever sit through and Portugal conceded zero goals and played that distinction as cautiously as humanly possible Ronaldo was a catastrophe with 2 hopeless long shots physically shoved Simão off his own free kick to take it himself then rolled it into Casillas’ arms from 30 yards Spain pressed relentlessly Torres was dreadful Llorente came on and immediately forced a save Then Iniesta to Xavi’s backheel to Villa Eduardo saved the first but Villa buried the rebound Costa got sent off for a ghost elbow at 89 Spain through Ronaldo went home having scored once Narrative: 3.5 Tactics: 4 Chances: 3 Goals: 3 Drama: 2.5 3.5/5

MOTM: Xavi Hernández (#8). Nearly every progressive play from Spain ran through him. Brilliant passing and ball retention. Won the ball and created chances with accurate long balls. Shoutout David Villa who had a great game even before the winner. POOR: Cristiano Ronaldo (#7). Poor touches, misplaced crosses, so easily dispossessed, and ineffective in front of goal. At a time when half the world believed he was the best in the world, the winger was a non-factor for his nation and whose only semblance of threat came from “too far to think about” set-pieces.
