I honestly was not impressed with whatever was happening during the entire match. Spain looked so much better from the first touch (interception btw). The midfield was by far the worst part (as expected) and this allowed Spain to dominate possession. Emma Hayes has to get it together. I do not like this experimental thing that she’s going with “sending” players to U-23 either. The USA is unique in that there are so many great young players to fill those slots who play in competive spheres with collegiate soccer before being scouted by NWSL, and putting them on the global stage with U-23 is a better was to further the youth program than filling the roster with players who do not do well in form together. Ally and Shaw dropped bc they weren’t going to play and instead you have “Reale” like give us break. Looking specifically at Patris goal, Wesley and Patterson practically run into each other as Imade makes the assist that leads to the goal. All five of them looked lost too it was so embarrassing. Patterson and Horan at the scene of the crime for the second goal as well. Aside from the missed penalty, I can’t understate how well Lily played this game. She was great defensively and did an amazing job winning possession. Don’t really have a strong opinion about Sophia Wilson but I do think a proper 9 would be better. Why do you need 5, 6 touches to line up a shot? Even in u-15 you need better touches than that. I cant end this without admitting how well Spain played in the first half. And omg that Athena red? I hate when players try and argue after such flagrant rubbish. Must be something in the water at Real Madrid. Overall though good game, poor result. I hope we can play better tomorrow!
