From after the 2nd hydration break™️, they lacked so much energy, they were so flat, so uninterested in doing anything to solidify their position. It’s as if they were trying to conserve energy for the next round. You cannot treat a World Cup knockout game that way, and they were deservedly punished. They continued this approach into extra time. It’s hard to blame them for playing for penalties in extra time, it’s what most teams do, but they should’ve never been in that position in the first place. The late penalty is a cruel way to lose it but they only have themselves to blame. Credit to Belgium. They didn’t need to do anything spectacular to come back, but come back they did. It’s still an impressive feat but this win is more down to Senegal’s unbelievable bottlejob. Probably the craziest game of the World Cup so far. Certainly the knockout stages at least.
