didn’t wake up at 7:30 for this game and i’m pretty happy about it cause it would have killed my mood for the day. bit of a scrappy game for arsenal, first game in 3 weeks and an incredibly underwhelming first half. leeds definitely smothered us with their press in the beginning with a higher press, which made raya go long to havertz who wasn’t winning his aerial duels (against that massive backline) and odegaard was a bit slow on getting to that second ball. when we did have possession, i thought leeds did very very well to drop back into a more compact shape, again highlighting our struggles in the final third against low blocks. on the flip side, i thought that arsenal were too passive on their own press. we weren’t jumping on the passes, leeds were able to build up from deep and get settled possession quite easily. bruno G coming on definitely helped. a very necessary sub to help get us some penetration against this leeds block. love skelly, but bruno was definitely the better pick for this game. that two games in a row where it should have been skelly or bruno over the other. oh captain my captain! ~60th minute mark, odegaard became a lot more proactive in leading the press, yelling at and directing our players to jump up on their man and having arsenal more aggressive. we were beginning to exert our control over leeds and our stats show it from then on. this is why odegaard is our skipper and this is absolutely his most underrated quality. final goal, very fluid, very beautiful. i think there are some issues we need to sort out of course, but how we bring in so many players for our game is so beautiful to watch.
