Wow it feels good to be back. Mentioned this in the match thread but I haven’t been this optimistic about preseason friendlies since the summer after Conte’s arrival. It feels as if this club’s been in a constant transitional state since Poch left, hopefully RDZ is the one to actually stick around for the long run. 1st half: De Zerbi ball is a sight to behold, 70% possession and it felt like more than that (although not the highest level of competition I’ll admit). All of our back 4 have looked comfortable on the ball and haven’t put a foot wrong defensively, Takai in particular looked better than I expected. Tonali is an absolutely excellent player, so talented at ensuring we’re able to retain possession, seemingly always available as an exit valve when pressure’s applied, and with such great control and composure. Fernandes with a brilliant goal but outside of that lost possession a couple of times, looks to always be trying to find the forward pass somewhat to his detriment, I trust that with time this will improve though, this is his first 45’ at the club. Gallagher did a decent job of dropping down a bit to get involved in the game, but nothing much of note. Tel and Solanke linked up excellently at the beginning of the match leading to the corner that resulted in the Fernandes goal, but outside of that quiet from them. Solomon looked to be fairly effective, hopefully a higher level championship side goes for him, could see him going for 8-10 million. 2nd half: Full new starting XI bar Kyerematen. Moore looks to be a decent player, definitely got potential but not quite the finished product yet, would like a championship loan for him this year for a promotion contender. LWB was our best player of the 2nd half, my MOTM over any of our actual starters, looks to be a really special talent. Not overly thrilled with our play this half but it’s nearly all youth players.
