After a tremendous start to the league campaign, Barça seek to consolidate their place at the top of the podium with another, and perhaps final, visit to the iconic, steep-walled stronghold of the Mestalla. A historic ground often revered as the twelfth player for one of Spain's most storied and illustrious clubs, Valencia Club de Fútbol. In which, if everything falls into place, are expected to eventually leave it behind for the Nou Mestalla. A stadium that, after roughly sixteen years serving as a decaying concrete eyesore, finally resumed construction following a prolonged period of financial hardship and administrative dysfunction. Initially conceived as a celebration of the club's extraordinary progress at the turn of the millennium, the Nou Mestalla was once proclaimed to become the "greatest stadium in the world" by a former president who saw such ambition as fitting for an Els Che side that stood among the giants of European football. Where the Valencia side once lifted the Copa Del Rey, Supercopa de España, Europa League, and twice the La Liga title to only came agonizingly close to touching the covet Champion League Cup in two separate occasions. However, much like the story of Icarus, they flew too close to the Sun, and as their wings burned amid mounting debts, ruinous decision-making, and years of instability that gradually dismantled what they once were, the fall beckoned. From days of glory to seasons spent flirting with relegation, their descent could only draw haunting parallels with tales of the Nou Mestalla. And this is made all the more evident as Valencia continue to be haunted by a familiar shadow of misfortune following a string of disappointing results. Now, they are forced to armour and steel themselves against the club that Maestro Hansi has seemingly come to regard as one of his favorite victims since his debut. Where Valencia only hope is to bring a fairy-tale ending to one of football's most decadent stories.

And so, Barça marched triumphantly past the Valencia side, enduring the insults and vile chants hurled at them from the stands, before finally ascending to the summit of the league after a fantastic series of events that had fallen perfectly in our favor. Where Barça could only bittersweetly wave farewell to a meritorious opponent that we might not have the pleasure of meeting at their new home for a long, long time.... PORQUE ESTÁN DESCENDIENDO !!!!

@geo But this parade of celebration would last only so long. For the first drops of rain could be felt upon our noses, trickling downward toward our parched throats. Which signal the enduring and cruel road awaiting us. Where above, the skies begin to darken… ominously. Where veyond the horizon, a storm is gathering and brewing….ferociously. And where the winds of Europe have begun to howl…. abomindably…

@geo for the giants of Dutch football and her vast sea of red, white, and black are advancing toward the Camp Nou that are widely regarded and known by many as the Het Legion….

As for the second half, i kinda missed majority of it due to a quick snack run 😅. Nevertheless, as someone in the chat stated: "Lamine did Lamine things that ended up with Lamine to Fermin and Fermin to a Rapha tap-in." And what else could have been said other than what was perfectly described by @taha ??

geo

@geo From there, Barça's momentum gradually began to quieten as Valencia finally managed to establish a more solid defensive shape, stifling several attacks from Princess Diana and Spider Rapha. Yet even that resistance ultimately proved futile as Pedri Potter magically appeared inside the box to make it four, putting the finishing touch on a brilliant sequence of crisp, perfectly weighted passes that sliced through Valencia's defense that formed.

@geo And then came the blonde beauty of Dani Olmo. Who, once again, became a beacon of creativity against sides who prioritize a low block approach that are utterly punished for it. In which, in the 83rd minute, Olmo produced a dazzling and hypnotic dribble, gliding beyond the defense, before picking out the perfect pass for the Starboy. Supplying the finishing touch to make it the five and the final flourish on a night of numbness for Els Che.

Yet, there were moments when Valencia powered forward with the fighting spirit of a side desperately seeking to reclaim a glimpse of its former self. But with every spark of hope that made it to the final third, it was quickly extinguished by the young and always jolly Cubarsí, who repeatedly swept in from behind to snuff out dangerous attacks. Combined with the commanding presence of Super Joan García, whose two superb saves denied Los Ches any real hope of finding a way back into the match.

@geo Before long, Barça returned with another familiar dominant possession on and off the ball with Pedri and Rodri working wonders in their first match together as the first half drew to a close.

At last, reality is often anything but a fairy tale, and Valencia were given a harsh reminder of that by another commanding performance from the Catalan side. Where, within the opening ten minutes, Barça had already begun weaving their magic. A fantastic lofted ball from the Ferminator, weighted with just the right amount of power, neither too heavy nor too light, found the laces of Lamine who buried his chance to the frustration of Los Ches.

geo
geo@geo4w ago

@geo In which, the pressure only continued from there with the Starboy soon producing another cheeky finish, though it was eventually ruled out for offside. Valencia's relief, however, would not last long. In a chaotic scuffle inside the box, Gordon managed to recover the rebound from Lamine's attempt to dismantle the Valencia defense and with a clever touch toward the Ferminator, Fermin calmly slotted it home much to their dismay.
