Argentina
AustriaOkay, aside from Messi, this Argentina team reminds me of what PSG has become or what Arsenal (hurts me as I write it) could become—imperious. Now that the Albiceleste have proven that they can win the World Cup, they are playing as if it is their birthright to defend their title and anyone who thinks differently is an idiot. Their ability to possess the ball is better, their counterattack is deadlier, their off-the-ball work is masterful, and they have the grit to suffer unlike any other team I’ve seen. I don’t know if Ian see them winning every game in 90, but it’s hard for me to imagine them losing one. I don’t know if this team has the goods to go all th way again—they’ve gotten arguably the easiest group of the draw and I need to see them against a top team before making an opinion. But you could tell me that the boy from Rosario alone scores all of Argentina’s goals this tournament and single-handedly brought them to the Final and I’d believe you.
