Cottbus played really well, it is so hard to play in that incredible stadium atmosphere, and it showed. Cottbus was extremely aggressive in defense and never allowed Augsburg to develop their passing game. Cottbus was also the better team when in possession and even had the first chance of the game in the 13th minute. While Augsburg clearly showed determination, they made too many sloppy mistakes in the final third, meaning that Gregoritsch’s header (22') and, shortly afterward, Wolf’s chip from a tight angle (33') remained their only real scoring chances in the first half. On the other end, cottbus had the game’s first big chance before halftime, with Hannemann and Guttau running toward Schlotterbeck together. Hannemann decided to take the shot himself, but under pressure, he was unable to get off a dangerous shot. A pass to the completely unmarked Guttau would certainly have been the better option. The score remained 0–0 at halftime. In the second half Augsburg scored with their first real chance, and afterwards Cottbus had a lot of chances but they missed every single one, so at the end of the day it was a game that could’ve been so much more for Cottbus, but Augsburg was just too efficient, really looking forward to see them in the Bundesliga, I think Manuel Baum is the perfect coach for them.
