Ajax travel to southeastern Limburg to face Fortuna Sittard in a physical match.
Matchday 6 sees Fortuna Sittard taking on Ajax in Sittard on Saturday evening.
Fortuna has experienced an incredible start to the season, as they currently sit 6th in the Eredivisie and have scored a surprising 11 times in five matches. Danny Buijs is seen as the most conservative managers in the Eredivisie, especially compared to most Dutch managers. This has lead to Fortuna often being called the ‘Dutch Getafe’. But with Mo Ihattaren being in incredible form, while the current player to watch has to be Lequincio Zeefuik. Currently on loan from AZ, the tall striker has 3 goals and an assist in 5 matches and is establishing himself as one of the most prolific strikers in the league. If the offensive players stay in form they are likely to be scoring more, while Fortuna have not yet been on their usual defensive level.
Ajax, after 10 games unbeaten have saw their first loss last week against rivals PSV (1-3). The club from Amsterdam went down in the most physically intensive game of the season so far. Looking to bounce back they will aim to win the last three games before the September international break. The man to look out for is of course Tolu. The Nigerian striker currently on loan from Wolves has stolen the hearts of Ajax fans in a matter of a few games. Though it is not certain if he will start, as with Marcos Leonardo the club has another very capable striker, but against the strong and physical defense of Fortuna, Tolu is expected to make his fourth start in a row as he already has 7 G/A in just 7 matches.
Fortuna Sittard will only be missing Sven Simons and Iván Márquez, who are both doubtful to make an appearance on Saturday evening.
For Ajax the injury list is a little longer. New signing Simon Adingra is still expected to be out until after the international break, with Aaron Bouwman being out until October with a bruised lung and ribs after the horrific foul on him last week. While Daley Blind and Rayane Bounida are day-to-day cases, they unlikely to be available, especially the former who has not made any minutes this season yet, his last appearance being on May 17 against Heerenveen (0-0).
Fortuna Sittard vs Ajax is matchday 6 of Eredivisie 2026/27. Fortuna Sittard sit 6th in the table, while Ajax sit 8th.
