But their most important player has been Gjivai Zechiël; last season he was one of the most exciting prospects when he was on loan at Utrecht, and this season he not only continued that form but he got even better. The midfielder is the league’s top scorer with five goals, while he is also second in creating chances with five as well. His incredible performances earned him the Eredivisie Player of the Month in August and it would surprise absolutely no one if he becomes Player of the Month for September too. Utrecht has not had the best start under new manager Anthony Correia, who previously managed Telstar, as they are in 14th place. The main problems for the team have been a mismatch between the players and the style Correia prefers to play, but recently they have started to pick up some pace. Last week they won their first game of the season against Excelsior (1-2), after a late winner from Dani de Wit. Artem Stepanov is the real standout player, despite Utrecht’s bad performances; the 19-year old Ukrainian striker has five goals in five games, scoring once in every match. He was already on loan at Utrecht for the second half of last season from Nürnberg, but he seems to be even more confident in front of goal this season.
