The second handful of Carabao Cup Round 3 games take place this week, a bitter Midlands derby here at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Frank Lampard will be without Awoniyi due to suspension, with Haji Wright, Josh Eccles, Luke Woolfenden and former Villan Kaine Kesler-Hayden all out through injury. Villa found their first goal against Nottingham Forest on the weekend, but an unfortunate Ian Maatsen injury led to Forest snatching a late winner to make it 1-2 at Villa Park, not what Unai Emery would've wanted. Positive news for Villa is that Joao Gomes returns to English competitions after suspension, he impressed in midweek in a 2-3 win away at Club Brugge. Young debutants Ibrahim Mbaye and Johan Manzambi caught the eye in the disappointing loss on Saturday, with Taylor Harwood-Bellis also seemingly set to make his debut imminently. However, Villa come away with more bad news, both Pau Torres and Ian Maatsen join the growing injury list with Leon Goretzka, Brian Madjo and Amadou Onana. Matty Cash also remains a doubt, after suffering from muscle pain against Hull, leaving him out of the past two matchday squads. Nothing to separate the two sides in those 5 matches, Coventry and Villa both winning 2 and a 1-1 draw inbetween. It's tough to call who will win this game, both strugglers have advantages.
