started with a less than ideal lineup/formation and our possession suffered because of it. glad we were able to adapt around the half and use our subs to show off our team’s talent in front of goal. esther with another beautiful brace and the kerr - lavelle stunner to win it in stoppage time was just the icing on the cake. great to see denise o’sullivan back in the nwsl and in our fast improving midfield. what a flight up the table! go bats

WOOOOO GO BATS! Tierna getting another stunning goal off a set piece this season. Esther putting in great work pressing up front and getting rewarded with a great goal, plus the class-a pk. Dudley still out there sprinting toward that ROTY bonus payment. Great assists from Reiten and Schupansky. Definitely a big boost after last week.

pulisic injuring himself by kicking another player really summed up this whole match. usmnt has some talent, but, unlike our womens team, they clearly lack the tactical awareness and creative playmaking skills needed to make it all the way in this kind of tournament. i also can’t help but feel like this result is some kind of karmic justice for all the red card nonsense. not even help from the higher ups could make our team somewhat competitive against this belgium squad. hoping all the americans who found themselves surprisingly invested in soccer these last few weeks decide to tune in again next year for the events in brazil.

Sad Bat Notes and Review: no flexibility in our shape tonight. the wave was marking gotham so close that any ball in need of settling became a chance for a turnover. nobody was ready to step out of their lane and give support to players receiving the ball off of a long pass, leaving them vulnerable to a swarm of nearby wave players. shaw… what is up with the lack of effort on the defensive side of the ball ?? we don’t have to stop running if a pass is played to us but doesn’t make it there. she is great in front of the net but gotham’s high-pressing play means that everyone needs to put their weight in defensively, even deep in the attacking half. jca… subs at half time. please. our substitute lineup looked so much stronger than our starting. i understand you want to give feedback to fix first half flaws but sometimes things clearly aren’t going as expected and could use more disruption earlier on. 1/3
