South Melbourne
Melbourne VictoryAbsolute fucking cinema. Twenty-one years these two waited to meet, and somehow their first competitive meeting gave us all of that. South Melbourne didn't come here to make up the numbers. They went toe-to-toe with Victory, played some genuinely good football and refused to go away. Javier Lopez was absolutely immense. And when Victory scored in extra time, I genuinely thought that was it. South looked exhausted. They'd given everything. Then Max Mikkola equalised in the 114th minute. I couldn't believe what I was watching. To come back from that, take it to penalties and actually win the bloody thing. In front of nearly 30,000 people. This is what Australian football is capable of. The history, the passion, the occasion. We've got something special here and I just wish we got to see more of it. I went into tonight with a soft spot for South Melbourne. I've come out of it a fan. What a fucking game. What a story.
