One team took its chances today, the other didn’t. That’s football. Genuinely think not much separated the 2 sides in terms of chances created; the nearly identical shot numbers and xG corroborate this. We were the notably better side for large stretches of the first half, but that’s meaningless if we are unable to convert. Poor individual performances from essentially everyone today. I thought Van Hecke and Matheus Fernandes were good, Robertson VDV and Marmoush okay, everyone else poor - most notably Tel, who seemed to be a genuine black hole in the attack. I’ve been very bullish on him since the arrival of RDZ but this was, by a fairly wide margin, his worst performance in quite some time. I think we could’ve put the match away in the first half had we started with first choice wingers rather than out of position Porro and Tel, but given Newcastle’s own issues with squad availability this should have never been a bottleneck. On the topic of Newcastle, it was a good performance from them. In spite of their complete depletion in the midfield they set up effectively and everyone played fairly well, Hall and Dedic made for a great fullback partnership and it was individual brilliance from Elanga and Wissa that gave them their 2 goals. Hornicek also with a great performance in net, played a perfect game. Poor result, but we move onto the next. COYS.

Thought Robbo looked about Celtic level, still surprised you went for him and I assume on starter money. Gakpo is a more efficient Tel, that poor kid needs to go to France to iron out his game. Clearly the kind of player who got thrown into men’s football too soon.

@rafadinhoforlahm Agreed. Robertson I think is effectively a stop gap for a season or two, he's still able to shine at times but only against the correct opposition - anyone who's seen him in the past year could tell that he would not be able to contain a wing with both Elanga and Dedic. Tel has the technical talents to succeed just seems to me that he lacks the total game hours required to be an excellent player. Once in a generation you'll get a player like Yamal...

@harris who plays like a senior player in spite of his age, but this is far from the norm. He's immensely talented but he requires far more game time to achieve anywhere near his potential.

@harris Totally agree. I feel like the relegation dogfights have also not been the best development for him, where you can play free of mistakes. To me Tel seems ideal for a front two, like the Korupi role Iraola made at Bournemouth. Hard to find a club that plays with 2 up front though, can only think of Inter.

@harris Robbo should be playing every other game at this point, and like you said, not against speed merchants. The best use of him would be against the likes of Chelsea who don’t use wingers and will have more of the ball. His problem is that he hasn’t realized his body is cooked, leading to overconfidence, which means you’ll probably see him caught out by a few more midtable wingers this season. He’s still a top player in possession, and I think he might look better next to Senesi.

@rafadinhoforlahm He’s the least of your problems, though. Looking forward to playing you guys in the league cup, should be fun.

@rafadinhoforlahm There has been talk of RDZ starting Solanke at ST and Marmoush at CAM, utilizing Marmoush as a SS when in possession, I imagine that Tel could do quite well in that role, but early days still. I'd ideally like to see him go out on loan for a year but it seems incredibly unlikely that we do that

Harris
Harris@harris29 Aug 2026

@rafadinhoforlahm Yeah agree with that assessment of Robbo, poor guy had to defend a wing of Kayode and Dango one week just to defend Dedic and Elanga the next, both really bad stylistic matchups for him. I imagine that Pool progresses in the cup quite easily, they've shown a lot of defensive weakness in the opening weeks but that's to be expected with a new manager, very preliminary score prediction is 3-1 Pool.

@harris I see you guys winning haha, 2-1 given your better depth…rumor has it we’re mostly playing the youth and saving the main team for the league and Europe. Robbo will likely have it easy given we have nobody on our right hand side. I’ll be intrigued to see how you guys play against Forest, a very defensive 3 atb, might be worth putting VDV at LB against Muñoz. I had you guys getting 7-8 points from your first 5, still think that’s highly doable.

@rafadinhoforlahm fwiw I think you guys will be okay, was listening to a pod the other day (tifo, I think) where they emphasized how important it is to manage expectations for Spurs given the psychological damage of relegation battles…they talked about how hard it is to go from 17 to 7 mentally for players, and tbf I felt like this week was much better than Brentford - you just didn’t have the wingers to go ahead

rafadinho forlahm
rafadinho forlahm@rafadinhoforlahm29 Aug 2026

@harris interesting…I wonder how a Tel and Marmoush front two could look, Tel in the Frankfurt Ekitike role - given Gakpo is leaning towards City, how would you feel about Ndiaye from Everton ?

Harris
Harris@harris30 Aug 2026

@rafadinhoforlahm I think for that matchup it's in large parts just a race to see which side's going to have been able to adopt their managers playstyle more effectively by then, as things stand Liverpool are not playing how Iraola wants them too and Spurs are not playing how RDZ wants them to

Harris
Harris@harris30 Aug 2026

@rafadinhoforlahm Yeah 100% was an improvement to the Brentford match. If you replay that Brentford game 100 times we lose 99 times and maybe pick up 1 draw. If you replayed this match 100 times I think it'd be close to 33/34/33. I was in poor spirits after it happened but with a day of hindsight both teams looked evenly matched, just one had some great individual performances and the other didn't

Harris@harris30 Aug 2026

@rafadinhoforlahm Wish I saw this message yesterday so I could've given an unbiased answer on him before he came lmao. I'm extremely extremely bullish on him, he's got incredible workrate and is one of the best dribblers in the league. I think he's a different enough tactical profile as more of a touchline winger than Kudus' inside forward that it allows for a lot of tactical flexibility depending on the opposition. Really really excited to see him in action.

@harris way better buy than Gakpo, will help out Robbo a lot - has the guile for a relegation battle, and I feel like he’ll prove more effective in cold winter games up at Sunderland than Gakpo - will go into my FPL

rafadinho forlahm

@harris Just really good finishing, also think Kinsky can do better…de Zerbi loves himself a mid keeper, next summer that can be easily upgraded on. I do think the one worry is the mentality of your boys when they play at home, this new White Hart Lane just has something about it. It’s the one big 6 ground I always fancy something out of, maybe it’s the lack of history inside it or something.

rafadinho forlahm
rafadinho forlahm@rafadinhoforlahm30 Aug 2026

@harris fairs, I just think you have better depth too - we’ve gutted our squad, and if we rest VVD and Jacquet for this game you’ll likely see Endo starting at CB…I obviously don’t want to lose, but the best thing for us is probably an early exit to a decent team, which is why I’ve come around to playing you lot so early

LC@childnumberfive29 Aug 2026

Robertson only okay can u elaborate why? Cause I thought he was very good tbh

Harris
Harris@harris29 Aug 2026

@childnumberfive He created our best chance of the game and was decent in build up but his lack of athleticism hurts, I'm not going to say the first goal was anyone's 'fault' per se as it was really just an incredibly well constructed play, but had Udogie or the late Spence been at LB I think it's very likely they would've had the pace and physicality to get to the ball before Dedic
