Football is the global game you’re a fool if you expect everyone to play it the same way. Paraguay went to war and did what they believed would give them the best chance to win. Not everything is as sanitized and watered down as it is in Europe. Real football is like life; sometimes it’s dirty, ugly, and brutal. If you don’t like it then you don’t really love football. You love the Champions League, commercialization and colonizers. Everyone knew what this game would be before it started and if you didn’t, then you’re a fool. Expecting Paraguay to come out and try to match France on footballing prowess alone is basically asking them to roll over and get pumped 5-0. You’re asking for submission from men who would rather die. You can’t imagine what it feels like to put on a shirt and go to war for your nation, but you can somehow muster the boldness to sit there and judge them from the comfort of your couch? This sport has always belonged to the kids who played bloody and barefoot in the streets. If you can’t understand that, then maybe this sport isn’t for you.
