Well that’s our World Cup journey done. I can confidently say that it went just about as I expected when I realized what group we were in after that win against Bolivia in Guadalupe. However, I am still incredibly proud to have witnessed my country participate in this tournament for only the SECOND time in our HISTORY. I think that this group of players has the potential to do something in the future, as long as we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot. And that really is the best way to describe the three games we’ve played here. Shooting ourselves in the foot. Defensive error after defensive error after defensive error. Hopefully in the future, we don’t bottle our qualifying group, so that we don’t end up in the last chance qualifier and seeded to the group of death. I mean, had we not bottled it, we would have been in Jordan’s place, and potentially have an easier group stage run. Not much to say specifically about this game, we conceded early to a set piece (shock) and then received a red card to kill off any hope.

Fwiw I think that the posted results do a grave disservice to how Iraq actually played on the pitch. Match vs Norway was genuinely exciting and Iraq created some fairly good chances. Match vs France was against best team in the world and even then managed to contain them very effectively until the 2 hour half time break. Had it not been for an Mbappe wonder strike it would've been 0-0 heading into half.
@harris ... This match is not representative of anything, Iraq went a man down early and then had absolutely nothing to play for, meanwhile Senegal needed every goal they could get to increase GD. All things considered despite the results it was by no means a bad showing. I'd be significantly happier supporting this Iraq team than a team like Ghana for instance (neccesary stray)
@harris Agreed, I was happy with our performances against Norway and France until we conceded the first goals in each game. And even then, when we equalized against Norway, we went and gifted them a goal out of nowhere (as did we with France). I think it comes with it being the first time our players are playing on such a massive stage, along with it being against such heavy hitting opposition.
@taha The team is also fairly young for the most part, I think they have a chance at doing well in the Asian cup next year
