My heart is refusing to believe that this is over. That this is the absolute last time he’s representing this country. Ever. Messi was the reason behind it all. Messi’s the one who introduced me to this magical world of football, to the club that became my home, my safe place and smt I love like nobody else can, to a country i dont even belong to yet somehow it belongs within me. Messi has been a huge part of my life since childhood til this very moment, and I cant really remember a stage in my life without a memory of him in it, Ive watched him losing, Ive watched him trying, Ive watched him coming back stronger again and again, every single time, and i’ve watched him winning and getting what he deserves. now that i am realizing i appreciate this more than ive thought i would. ive always known that THIS day would come, yet ive never braced myself, i couldnt. I can’t imagine a world of football without him, the one who was, is, will forever be my everything in this world. something will forever feel missing and empty without him. Now that i’m thinking of it, it’s a blessing that i got to grow up in a time when messi existed and played, and ive got to watch it from the start to the very end. And God knows that one day i’ll tell someone that YES i’ve watched messi play, I’ve witnessed it, cheered for him to the very last moment, proudly and lovingly, but they probably won’t understand how much that means to me, cuz they wont understand who messi really is to us, his loyal, geniune supporters. I’m lost for words, really, nothing feels enough to express this bittersweet moment. Every moment spent with him is easily one of my best moments. And I dont think that i’ll admire, love and cherish anyone the way i admire, love and cherish Messi. “اشكر الظروف التي جعلت منك لاعب يا ميسي❤️”.

i know i’m late to writing this. i wanted to write it yesterday but i needed a little time to process it. i’ve always hated goodbyes esp with players who’ve been part of my life. if it were up to me, nothing i love would ever end. i started watching football in 2014 without knowing how much i’d fall in love with it. i didn’t think i’d care that much, then there was messi, barça, argentina and i was gone. i remember the 2014 final and how painful it was seeing you lose something you wanted so badly. then in 2022, i got to see you finally win it. i’ll never forget how happy i was for you. you finally got the moment you deserved. i know i didn’t watch every year of your prime and there are moments i wish i could go back and see but i don’t need to have watched every second to know what you mean to me. there’ll never be another player who gives me that feeling. you weren’t just someone i watched play football, you were one of the reasons i fell in love with it. i grew up watching you and now i’m crying over edits, realizing i’ve watched the end of your argentina career. i knew this day would come but that doesn’t make it any easier. no more seeing your name in an argentina lineup, no more waiting to see what only messi can do. i really hate that it’s over. thank you for everything, lionel. for the goals, the memories and all the impossible things you made look normal. i hate that people tried to take that away from you, saying there had to be some explanation for why you were that good instead of just appreciating that they were lucky enough to witness it. none of that changes what you gave football or us. i’ll always remember the player i first watched in 2014 and somehow ended up caring about this much and maybe when the club retirement comes, i’ll be crying again, asking if we can delay it for another 15 years but that’s a problem for another day. for now, thank you. i don’t think i’ll ever be ready to say goodbye but i guess that's what this is.

I just want to start off by saying I’m not a big Argentina fan and that I’m still new to football. I would also like to mention that I know little about what Messi has done in past for his team and this was before I got into football and I’ve only recently started learning more about his story and everything he has been through throughout his career. Reading some of you guys reviews actually made me cry because I can tell that Messi has been a constant source of joy or national hero for you guys. To other people, he’s a footballer, but to many of you, he seems to represent so much more than that. So many memories, so many years of watching him, and such a huge part of your lives. Seeing how emotional this moment is for all of you made me realise just how special his journey with Argentina has been too adn I think it’s really beautiful how one person could bring so much happiness to an entire generation of people. Again I may not have been able to witness everything from the start but I’m glad to be able to be here and at least experience this small part of the story. I hope whatever happens from here, you guys can look back on all those years with pride and happiness. Thank you, Messi, for giving many people (including my friends) memories they will cherish and carry with them forever. Love you guys 🩷

Messi's Argentina story is the most beautiful career arc i have seen in any sports, From so many set backs upto 2016 including a wc final loss against germany and then taking retirement from Argentina Then coming back to a team which was filled with his fanboys winning it all Such a beautiful ending which deserves a beautiful biopic

Messi, muchas gracias por todo. Ever since I laid my eyes on you on July 9, 2014, during the 2014 World Cup match against the Netherlands, I couldn’t stop thinking about you. I never really came from a football family, but I fell in love with the way you moved with the ball, so elegantly, so effortlessly, and so out of this world. At the time, I happened to be vacationing in the Dominican Republic, and I remember hearing the Argentine supporters singing and chanting. There was something about that atmosphere that captivated me. Instantly, I fell in love with football, and I decided I would follow you throughout your career. After the World Cup ended, I started supporting Barcelona. And just three years later, I got to see you play in person during the 2017 El Clásico friendly against Real Madrid here in Miami. I still remember what it felt like to see you standing on that pitch in front of me, the player I had spent years watching on a screen was suddenly right there. Since that day in 2014, so much has happened. I watched you experience the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. I watched you win everything there was to win, and I watched you endure moments when it seemed like the one thing you wanted most was always just out of reach. But you never stopped. And then came 2022. I don’t think I will ever be able to properly put into words what it felt like watching you lift the World Cup. After everything you had experienced with Argentina, seeing you finally become a world champion felt incredibly personal, even for those of us watching from thousands of miles away. You gave me memories I will carry for the rest of my life. You made me fall in love with football. You introduced me to Barcelona, to Argentina, to the beauty of this sport, and to a culture and community I may have never discovered otherwise.

i’m not quite sure where to begin. i’m not a barcelona fan, im not argentinian yet i still felt a lump in my throat watching this match. it’s almost a strange alien feeling to care so much about a player you never saw play for your team but that just speaks to how far big his legacy is. before i knew any other players, i knew about messi, i didn’t watch him at his peak but i heard the stories. again another way to illustrate the impact that he’s had on this sport. he’ll forever live on not just in the minds of people who watched him live, watched him for their club or country, but everyone who ever watched him play the sport that we all love. a standing ovation for the greatest player of all time. 🩵🤍

GRACIAS, LEO ❤️ First of all, I don’t even know how to put this into words. I never thought a day like this would ever come, and honestly, I still can’t believe it’s here. Looking back, I can only think about the first time I watched you play. I remember being completely captivated by the way you played, and somehow, you got me hooked. That was the day I truly fell in love with football, and with watching you play it. It hurts to know that all I can do now is thank you for everything. For every match, every goal, every win, every defeat, every trophy, every magical free kick, every tear, and every smile. Thank you for making me feel things I never knew football could make me feel. I know el ultimo tango with Argentina is here, but it still feels unreal and unbelievable. I just don’t feel ready to see you hang up that jersey. A part of me wishes I could keep watching you play forever. I will be forever grateful for everything you have given to football, to the people who love you, and especially to me. Thank you for everything, Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini. I’ll never forget the player who made me fall in love with the game. 🤍🩵

the greatest joys of our lives are often not appreciated until it’s all in the past. growing up in a south american football household, messi was always a name spoken within our conversations. whether in a positive or negative light, his name was always somewhere to be found. “did you see what messi did?” “i can’t believe that messi guy.” “i’ve always liked messi.” “i’ve always hated messi” no matter what it was, there was always an opinion. there was never one thing you could never deny though, his impact. without realizing it, i’ve seen the highs and lows with messi’s career with argentina. whether it was the sadness of 2014 and 2016 or the joy of 2022 and 2024. i was watching every game without realizing i was watching a one of a kind player grace the stage. today there is a stadium filled with thousands of people crying and shouting his name. but at one point in time, it was almost like the failures of that team grew thousands of people to hate the man. i could go on and on about his accomplishments that broke this and the crazy amount of records he’s broken but one thing i just want to highlight is his ability to make people believe. believe in your team. believe in your country. believe in yourself. despite all the odds life throws at you or the situations you are put in after it seems like the world tries to bring you down, you can truly make it. you can live your dreams and so so much more. this may be the end to his time in argentina but he will forever live in the history of the team. let this not be a sad ending but a celebration of all the good things that have happened. gracias leo. 🫶

Genuinely I don’t even know what to say. I don’t want to be corny or anything but damn. I’m in denial and I bet this isn’t even going to hit me until a random night. What makes this match worse is the amount of nostalgia I have been feeling these past few weeks, and knowing how much football takes a part of that. I don’t ever think I got formally introduced to Messi. My first major memory of watching football was during the 2014 wc (I did watch before this dw). I still vividly recall watching his matches and how Argentina “took revenge” for Mexico over the Netherlands. Ofc, I also remember watching him lose that final. During and after that wc, Argentina went to become my “backup national team” behind Mexico until 2022 (when they both played in the group stage). Dont even get me started on when he left Barca, I could literally tell u everything about how that day went. Anyways, I could and would write so much more but I just can’t. Sometimes I’ll talk to my younger cousins and it’ll upset me to know that they never saw the prime versions of so many greats, and how they don’t even know who some of them were. It’s sad to know that some people are never going to experience seeing Messi play for Argentina live. Thank you Messi, for being a part of me and my childhood 🫶

Gracias, Léo. Gracias, Otamendi. Gracias
