Review from the stadium, wow. So proud of this team. The fight they gave was unreal, against Europe's best team too, is even more impressive. AND to add we were missing 5 first team players, whereas they had their FULL team on the pitch. Despite the result, I feel nothing but positivity from this team. The George Hemmings and Ian Maatsen partnership was absolutely unreal. Brian Madjo an absolute tank. Kamara and Gomes were absolutely brilliant. Bizot even, fantastic. The positive adjectives for each and every player are limitless. I'm so proud of this team. May this be the beginning of a great era under the great Unai Emery. We love him to bits, we wouldn't change him for anyone. I hope we've proved a lot of doubters wrong, once again. The ceiling of this team is only held back by the PL's dodgy rules. A first half that was easily a 5 star, and a second half that was easily a 1 star. The goals were so fucking beautiful though thats whats saving this rating. Yuri Alberto was incredible. Breno Bidon and Andre will soon take over the entire world they are so good already, excited for their future. Was lovely to see the goat Jlingz again as well. Zakaria Labyad on my screen again after i thought he was finally gone, baaaaad ptsd from his time at Ajax lmao. Also saw a banner for ‘Autistas Alvinegros’ which intrigued me and i now want this to be a thing at every club, like thats actually so good and would be such a lifesaver for many people who love football but cant survive in the loud environment. I had this beautiful thing written down but then Argentina suddenly won the game again so thats great, all my hard work gone just like that. Where do you even begin? Egypt was incredible for 70 minutes, and after that they just fumbled it. Pressure got to them perhaps, but it’s a generational collapse. For Argentina to still win is just absurd after all that, they did not deserve it at all, but ball don’t lie. Messi is just him at the end of the day. I don’t care what FIFA — or what presidents of countries do, they cannot destroy what makes football beautiful. Games like these are the ones you remember for a damn long time. Absolutely heartbreaking for Egypt because they fought so so so hard, but they couldn’t do it for the 90 minutes. But Argentina can’t go on like this, they look so clueless whenever Messi plays poor and it only looks good when he works his magic. Scaloni isn’t even a fraud because everyone knows he has no tactics, it is ran on vibes. Messi does have the most assists ever in the World Cup now, and also scored for 9 world cup games straight now, also the first to score in 6 consecutive knockouts games with a goal, despite having one of the poorest games in a while. And his 21st goal of course bringing him to 30 G/A on the WC. Most insane stat is that Argentina lost their previous 13 games when they were trailing by two goals, but not today. Also first time a player missed two penalties on a single World Cup tournament without penalty shootouts #recordbreaker. Perhaps the best game, i don’t know anymore this world cup is blessing me with too many good games. Man of the match Messi because even when he’s bad he ends on 2 g/a.

Well that’s our World Cup journey done. I can confidently say that it went just about as I expected when I realized what group we were in after that win against Bolivia in Guadalupe. However, I am still incredibly proud to have witnessed my country participate in this tournament for only the SECOND time in our HISTORY. I think that this group of players has the potential to do something in the future, as long as we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot. And that really is the best way to describe the three games we’ve played here. Shooting ourselves in the foot. Defensive error after defensive error after defensive error. Hopefully in the future, we don’t bottle our qualifying group, so that we don’t end up in the last chance qualifier and seeded to the group of death. I mean, had we not bottled it, we would have been in Jordan’s place, and potentially have an easier group stage run. Not much to say specifically about this game, we conceded early to a set piece (shock) and then received a red card to kill off any hope.
