i’m not quite sure where to begin. i’m not a barcelona fan, im not argentinian yet i still felt a lump in my throat watching this match. it’s almost a strange alien feeling to care so much about a player you never saw play for your team but that just speaks to how far big his legacy is. before i knew any other players, i knew about messi, i didn’t watch him at his peak but i heard the stories. again another way to illustrate the impact that he’s had on this sport. he’ll forever live on not just in the minds of people who watched him live, watched him for their club or country, but everyone who ever watched him play the sport that we all love. a standing ovation for the greatest player of all time. 🩵🤍

Trying to write this review for days has been hard but here we go. When I think of Leo Messi, I see more than just another football player. Because for me, he was never just a football player. He is one of those people who, without ever knowing you, somehow becomes part of your memories, your different phases of life, your family conversations, your victories, your defeats, and even the way you learned to love something. Messi taught me that football is more than just a sport. I saw him turn football into something else. He taught me how to love it, how to feel it. He taught to love the team that right now is the team of my whole heart, Barça. I saw him do things that looked impossible. I watched him lose, win, fall, get back up, and chase that World Cup that for so many years seemed impossible. But what a surprise life had waiting for him. Watching him lift that World Cup was more than just watching Messi win a trophy. It was seeing that little boy from Argentina, who had dreamed of playing for his country since he was young, finally give Argentina that third star after more than ten years of trying. And on a personal level, it felt like watching a family member finally achieve something they had been chasing for years. That’s why it hurts. Because it’s not only about watching him realize that it’s time to say goodbye. It’s about realizing that we’re growing up too. It hurts because we know that phases end. It hurts because eventually there will be a last game, a last time seeing him wear that shirt. But I also feel deeply thankful. Thankful for making me love this sport. Thankful for making me live through moments that I will always carry in my heart. Thankful for teaching me that losing doesn’t mean the story is over. Thankful for being there through so many different stages of my life without ever knowing how much he meant to me. + more in comments.

One of the most one sided games I've seen in a while, the game was already done in the first half. Although Croatia should've had one goal with a sitter missed by Mateo Kovacic, it would've been far from deserved. England were better on every aspect and you could absolutely argue the scoreline flattered Croatia, it was extremely embarrassing for those top level players on their home soil to show absolutely no fight, at the end I felt bad for the schoolchildren in the crowd who had to watch that mess 😭

Kane ghosting again but as usual finding a goal from nothing. I love him and the goals he scores but he needs to find the right balance of involvement in a game, as he either gets too involved or not involved at all, both which can affect the performance negatively. Good to see Ngumoha and Scott get on the pitch, two stars that are definitely part of England's future. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Lewis Hall are an effective fullback duo, impressed today and both proving Tuchel wrong about being left out of the World Cup squad in America. MOTM is Anthony Gordon, been up there with Bellingham and Kane performance wise for England as of recent, including his World Cup performances. Maybe Barcelona were right about his price tag all along....

England2 - 3SpainHorrible start, but England made a decent account for ourselves as the game went on. Extremely silly from Guehi to make an error like that so early, literally no need to turn and hand it on a plate. England responded really well and had some really good and positive plays. Gordon with a lovely linkup with Bellingham and finish using his unmatched pace. Then Kane with a header that was comically guided in by Cucurella, made everyone but the Spanish laugh I think. England had a fortunate penalty in the second half blazed over by Harry Kane, which my dad and myself BOTH called he'd miss. From then Spain took their chances with England being so casual in defence, as usual, after many good combinations in the attack leading to squandered chances. This is what happens though, make mistakes and you get punished, especially against the World Champions. We go again, I was impressed with Gordon, but there was one player who stood out, Jarrel Quansah. The only good defender tonight, he worked his socks off in both defence and attack, so he's my MOTM for England. Overall MOTM is probably Lamine Yamal, didn't do a lot but the stuff he did do was quality and was a huge factor in Spain winning the game.
