These guys reaaaaalllly need to work on their second half effort. Their second halves in 3 away games so far this year read like a horror novel. Props to Elche who took the space that Madrid were offering to them in spades and punished them. For a moment around 88’ when there were 7 Madrid attackers on the pitch I thought Elche might just win it, but well done by Mbappe to avoid the urge to shoot and play Espí in on goal for the 3 points.

It’s time for the Chelsea hype to stop. They lost on xG and were thoroughly outcoached and out-disciplined by Hull today. Their defense is still a disaster and Emi Martinez isn’t fixing it. Rogers’s early goal was lucky not to be saved and Pedro’s was a class roof of the goal finish, so I’m not gonna say the attack is a problem, but they deserved to draw today and probably deserved to lose.

Wank performance from Liverpool, no mincing words about it. Fulham have a solid performance defensively but Liverpool just have no creativity at the moment. In a string of poor games, this was Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai’s poorest. Isak had two okay-ish chances but other than that they simply didn’t look that dangerous. A lot to work on.

NO HATEWATCH ALLOWED TODAY LADS AND LADESSES! Rayan Cherki changed the game and should start every match from here forward. I don’t love the winger isolation tactics that Maresca is deploying, as I think Semenyo works better as a more direct player than a technical dribbler. Foden was off his game as usual, and Haaland without hair appears to just be Brian Brobbey. O’Reilly and Anderson put in good shifts, and please never let me watch a Marc Guehi underlapping run again. Bouaddi will be such a welcome addition if we continue to avoid playing Nico G for some reason. Bournemouth for their part played okay, I thought Tavernier and Kluivert were standouts. In the end, losing Senesi hurts on set pieces. Not a great display from city but we take the 3 points.

Their play style is very refreshing relative to often stale premier league tactics employed by basically everyone else who played today. With the ball, Tottenham looked okay, just struggling to finish without their injured higher quality attackers. Without the ball, Tottenham were lost. No one seems to have the correct positioning, and they did not press together if at all. They’ve got a lot of work to do.
Ipswich2 - 1SunderlandA strong and well-deserved win from Ipswich. Their goals were mostly due to defensive issues on the part of Sunderland, but they generally looked more comfortable than Sunderland did today. Enciso and Maeda look like great adds to add creativity at a higher level.
Everton2 - 0Crystal PalaceExcellent all-around display from Everton. Crystal palace had a few chances in the first half, but couldn’t take them, and after that it was all the Toffees. Dewsbury-Hall, Ndiaye, and Barry looked like Olise, Dembele, and Mbappe. Everton probably should have won by more in all honesty. It may be a long season for Palace fans.
Hull City2 - 0Man UnitedTHE PREMIER LEAGUE IS BACK. Hull City (-800 to be relegated) have shut out Manchester United. Hull’s shape was well-disciplined and they made hardly any mistakes, capitalizing on the set pieces they earned. They also had a few solid chances from open-play, so it’s not a smash-and-grab by any means. Now for United. That was an absolutely DIABOLICAL performance. In the first half, they could not play progressive passes through the midfield. Andrey Santos and Tielemans were awful. Bruno Fernandes played wayyy too far forward, and couldn’t be arsed to try and get on the ball. They continued to play lofted passes to wingers with no midfielders making late runs into the box to target with cutbacks or crosses. I am simply unsure what the plan was. Then, in the second half, they had most of the ball, but created near to nothing. Harry Maguire kept venturing forward for some reason, and still looked like their best attacker. Bruno continued to avoid the ball until the final 5 minutes where he dropped to near the halfway line just to spray diagonal passes to Shaw. Rashford was a bright spot when he came on, but again, there were no players arriving in the box to which he could pass to create a chance. Overall, one team cared about the game and one clearly didn’t respect the opponent. The team that cared won.
Arsenal3 - 0CoventryArsenal were on fire in the first half. This is the first time they’ve been genuinely fun to watch in a long while. Tzolis is already looking like an absolute beast in this squad at LW, their weakest position last year. While it is newly-promoted Coventry, based on this game it also appears that Arteta is keen on attacking with more fervor and flow, which is part of why the game was fun to watch. This could be due to decreased pressure after having finally won after coming in second so many times. Though, if this keeps up and they walk the league with this style, it stands to reason that they may have had a better chance to win more PL titles in the past with an attacking style like we saw today. However, that can’t be measured as causal because unlike in the past, I’m ready to admit that Arsenal have the best squad in the league this season, and by quite a margin. Signing Konsa as CB DEPTH tells you a lot about their quality. Coventry, for their part, did seem to have a plan of attack, it just wasn’t coming off well. I’d hazard a guess that this was due to not having their preferred striker to use as a hold up player. The GK long balls to a hold up 9 have shown to be effective for previous newly-promoted teams (thinking of Forest a few years back, or even Sunderland to an extent last year).

3 insane goals and 1 penalty, all action first half. The blitz tactics from Santander were really fun to watch, overloading in attacking areas to seemingly surprise Villarreal. After about 40 minutes, there was a clear drop off from Racing, probably caused by the intense start, which meant they shipped two right before halftime. It was great to see the Racing defensive discipline in the second half after the capitulation at the end of the first. Overall, a strong effort vs the third place team in La Liga 2025-26. If you had told me Racing got a draw out of this before the game, I’d have signed up for that every day of the week. Having led 2-0 though, there is a slight bitter taste in the mouth.

Spain absolutely dominated these frauds omg. Messi nowhere to be seen, Enzo idiot mode, Romero somehow got a yellow card on the bench bc of course he did 😂😂 hatewatch complete 🤩 This game was decided by Nico Williams for me. When he came on, Spain actually looked like scoring. He had an incredible assist for Torres and scored what should have been a goal. Yamal lowkey stunk it up a bit, like all tournament. Rodri, as usual, was massive in the middle. Merino also should be mentioned as being really solid when he came on, with a game saving clearance and a straight to the face block. I genuinely thought after about 80 minutes that would be pens and Argentina win. Thank you Spain for saving football. They played to an extremely high standard all tournament, and deserved this World Cup. Lastly, shoutout Cabo Verde for holding these guys to a draw in 90 mins. We love you Cabo Verde
