Was bored during the international break so got Gemini to hook me up with a random full football match to watch and it landed on this, I can't remember watching this when it happened so I'll assume it's a first watch, and to say the least I was not disappointed. Good first half Villa performance, real scrappy goal but sometimes those are the best. Also maddening that Pau Torres and John McGinn - who got the assist for the Watkins goal - are the only players still at Villa from that whole starting lineup, despite so many collecting a UEL medal last year. Second half completely blew the first out of the water from the very first minute. Literally. A fantastic dribbling finish from Rogers doubled Villa's lead and that was only the beginning. An unbelievably fast comeback from Brentford spearheaded with Zanka (oh my days that bloke hasnt come into my thoughts in 3 years) and Mbeumo had Villa on the backfoot. The coolness of Wissa to tuck it into the backpost is unmatched and we will likely see more of that even this season for Newcastle. An absolute rookie error from Mark Flekken seen Villa draw level despite Brentford having a far more inspired half in the second. Fantastic game all round with drama at either end from every move. (p.s love seeing thomas frank drop points)

And finally Higgins' Coleraine have fallen. This game wasn't even necessarily 1st vs 2nd, it was to see if Coleraine could hold off until Larne decided to finally play those games in hand. I cannot go through the entirety of my review without bringing up THAT Shields goal. After watching so many teams across Europe utilising that long throw, it took long enough for a team to actually score from one (Except Brentford). A fantastically taken rifle that no keeper could've saved. Kobei Moore's finish as well has to be applauded, the pass that set off the counter from Johns was unreal and the instinct of both Moore and the rest of the Linfield side to race up the pitch in such fashion after the Coleraine "goal". Adam Frizzell is the man of the match for me, orchestrated every move for Linfield, even getting a goal himself that opened the contest.

Really think Benfica could've got something out of the match if not for that early red card. Although pre-Lenglet, that 5 back (counting Rosario's versatile CB/DM/CM ass position) was quite stubborn. After the Bah goal it was more about damage control for Benfica, trying to limit the GD loss instead of getting back anything redeeming. Felt there were times were the ref was too lenient and where he was too strict. Quite an off day for officiating. Circati seemed to fit the boots of Lenglet fairly well as he nearly handed a lead doubling goal when he had an awkward pass-back to Soares. Highlight of the match had to be that Hwang goal that sealed it for Porto.

Hungary2 - 3Rep. Of IrelandI know many people like to claim that the 2022 World Cup Final was the greatest game ever, but this game may very be the best day of my LIFE and I didn't even attend! To start with the odds, they were stacked against us to say the least. A win against Portugal and a win at Hungary for just the chance to make it to North America for the World Cup. After that night against Portugal the country started to dream, and one man would guide the dream to its physical state, Troy Parrott. A player I've held very close to my heart because of his both Irish and Tottenham roots, always wanting him to break through to the first team. Now, with the chance to singlehandedly bring his nation to their first WC in my lifetime. I dont have the words to describe what that hat-trick did to me, especially having known the player prior to his first callup, made me feel so proud of him. Even if you were not into football, the entire country erupted and started feeling as one again for a while. For at least those 5 minutes after that hattrick goal. Nothing mattered anymore, no politics, no nothing, all there was, was an Irish team, a roaring nation behind them and two games separating them from the World Cup. I felt proud to be Irish. And it left us with a quote that will be permanently engraved into our souls and into the sporting folklore of this very nation. "One Last Throw of the Dice."

The scoreline was totally self-inflicted, time after time they were handed a goal on a plate, on numerous occassions, not to discredit the performances of the goalkeepers but 9/10 times those are goals. The Kubo chance, the Aspas chance, don't even get me started on him trying to point the blame onto someone else for that muck up. At one point it actually became laughable how each chance was so wayward yet so far off. Regardless, Ionut Radu has played out of his skin with the best performance of his career no doubt. If not for him this could've very easily been a cricket score.
