Argentina3 - 0Benin

Gracias, Léo. Gracias, Otamendi. Gracias

feeling the need to log another entry about this match: while i understand the action taken by the administration of bookd to moderate the chat mostly around israel, i would be remiss to not say something (serious, i’ve made plenty of jokes). football is inherently political. israel is committing a genocide. criticizing israel is not antisemitism. joking about israel and their inability to do anything but slaughter children is not antisemitism. while antisemitism does exist around the topic, i don’t agree fully with the decision to potentially lock all chats involving israel. i’m palestinian, living in america. i am only writing this whilst sitting on my couch in detroit because of geographical luck and the sacrifices of my family throughout generations. there are thousands of children and young people who do not and will not ever have this luxury. there are thousands of children throughout palestine and the greater levant who had their dreams stolen, either by amputation or death; dreams as small as one day playing football with their friends on a pitch without the threat of bombs or snipers. i think of these children every time i’m watching a match or talking to my friends about the game or in the stands. they deserved to live as we do. obviously, it’s not that serious here. this is a football app. however, i think shutting down everything around the discussion of israel and their football team is wrong and sends a strange message. again— rationally, i understand the decision. however, i cannot support what feels like a blind deflection of the responsibility that comes with handling this sort of subject matter. shoutout toni and olivia for all they do, but free palestine till it’s backwards. israel is committing a genocide, and we cannot let anyone forget or turn a blind eye to it. 🇵🇸 (forgive any strange wording here, i’m a bit fired up)
Man City5 - 3Sunderland

What an amazing game, Man City came out on top with some quality finishes, but let's not take any credit away from Sunderland and Brian Brobbey (Brobbery @scartinelli), they were brilliant. These are my favourite types of games, defensive chaos and attacking joy, not when Villa are in that situation, but when I can just sit back and enjoy the football. Thanks for the Sunday afternoon cinema, Manchester City and Sunderland. ❤️🩹👏 I don't usually give MOTM to the losing team, but Brobbey was an absolute beast.

Club America2 - 2Guadalajara Chivas

Game lived up to expectations. 2-0 lead was not enough for Chivas and America managed to make a comeback. This game had a little bit of everything, rough tackles, good goals and a couple of “fights.” This is what Liga MX is all about. The biggest teams in Mexico went all out and while I had a 3-2 prediction, I’m glad we got this many goals. The bicycle kick from Borja was a thing of beauty, I don’t think anyone tops that this season. Great game!

bay struggle ball was imminent, but their hustle shook me. this is probably the first time bay has given us a true NWSL After Dark match. looked to be a very dominant game from denver scoring 2 goals first and bay, with some powers and wills that be, came through and pushed to take a point back. I think bay could’ve won this game if Moreau stayed on her line instead of dropping down to silky - she was also facing her teammates too!! I’m still mad about that tbh bc Denver’s goal could’ve been called for offsides easily. Other noteworthy things: - cometti clutch save after silky’s injury - bring back huff into midfield. change the bay formation to a single pivot with Hutton as the single DM and put fuller and huff as CMs/CAMs. I think the double pivot with Hutton and bebar constantly forces bay to play from the back too much and quickly loses momentum. Need emma coates and her staff to really think that possession-based football shouldn’t always be the focus and can be totally pointless if we can’t score goals. - silky puts her heart and body on the line every game. so much tape on her body 😩 - I think Rudy will be traded/off the team by the end of the season. After she subbed out, bay slowly played better. I also think there’s a lot of miscommunication between her and the rest of the players which sucks. But she’s been severely underwhelming this season and is not worth the price tag bay got her for (thanks lucy rushton 🙄) Yes I’m very critical of my home team bc a lot of the time they’re super unserious with the way they play. I want to see more of this kind of fight and spirit like we saw from both goals (and silky and cometti) every game from bay. POTM to taylor huff for the assist (back heel to hutton, though a bit messy!) and the late goal equalizer. should be evident that she needs to be back on the midfield instead of wing. (screenshot of my comment about huff minutes before she scored. Let’s fucking go)

Sadly i must admit that it was a good watch. A dominant performance from barcelona where there was really no doubt of them winning this. Motm is definitely between yamal and raphinha but it will go to yamal for his free kick and 2 assists. Honestly didn’t expect anything from gabriel jesus but it was a nice header off the bench from him. Great assist from pedri aswell who played good, adeyemi and cancelo also impressed me and i expected less from adeyemi when he first signed. Also that offside trap was amazing today

In Bruges achieves the very difficult task of being both hilariously funny and tragically sad. This is a combination that director Martin McDonagh and stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson perfected in The Banshees of Inisherin, but the formula came from this film. Our two protagonists both contrast and mirror each other in their outlook on life. Farrell feels the emotional weight of his life as a hitman. It’s something he’s good at but he struggles greatly with the morality of his work and who gets caught in the crossfire. Gleeson has a more melancholic feel about his performance; he’s blocked out the emotions of it all a long time ago and does his job without complaint. He still feels, just not enough to care. This film asks the intriguing moral questions of if we can truly change, and whether it is our actions or how we feel about our actions that defines if we are a good or bad person. Despite the underlying sadness and deep philosophical nature of In Bruges, the film is very funny, with the American tourists, Farrell’s dwarf theory and Ralph Fiennes’ destruction of a telephone all providing genuine laughs. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you enjoyed Banshees. A wonderful piece of Irish storytelling. I would also recommend The Guard, also starring Brendan Gleeson, and Don Cheadle, which is another hilarious Irish film. Fun fact - The Guard is actually directed by Martin McDonagh’s brother John. Another funny Irish one I’d suggest is The Young Offenders. They made it into a TV series after which is still going despite the actors being in their 30s, but the movie is better. Fun fact - The actress who plays the woman at the hardware shop appears in the current season of The Traitors Ireland. Follow for more film reviews and fun facts.
