PSG2 - 1Aston VillaReview from the stadium, wow. So proud of this team. The fight they gave was unreal, against Europe's best team too, is even more impressive. AND to add we were missing 5 first team players, whereas they had their FULL team on the pitch. Despite the result, I feel nothing but positivity from this team. The George Hemmings and Ian Maatsen partnership was absolutely unreal. Brian Madjo an absolute tank. Kamara and Gomes were absolutely brilliant. Bizot even, fantastic. The positive adjectives for each and every player are limitless. I'm so proud of this team. May this be the beginning of a great era under the great Unai Emery. We love him to bits, we wouldn't change him for anyone. I hope we've proved a lot of doubters wrong, once again. The ceiling of this team is only held back by the PL's dodgy rules. Quick word on the referees, awful. But enough about them. This is about Aston Villa 💜💙 Congratulations to PSG, it was a great game. May we meet again 🙂↕️ UP THE FUCKING VILLA!!!

Kind of late for this review because of traveling in Barcelona, but here we are after 3 days... I attended a watchparty near the hotel that I'm staying at and boy oh boy what an experience it was! The atmosphere was immaculate. Got called Cucurella countless of times by a lot of guys over here because of my long, curly hair (no offence taken haha). The interactions were amazing as if you knew them a long time and the people were so welcoming which made the experience even better. Everytime Trump would come on screen, everyone booed loudly towards him (including myself) and chanted 'Viva Palestina' as if it couldn't get better haha. What was funny about this match is that everytime Argentina made a foul, everyone started to cheer as if the game was won, let alone that red card lmao haha. The final itself was very good imo, excluding that halftime show 🙄, but the match itself was very tense and nail-biting to watch. Both sides played very good at their strengths. Argentina with their brick wall of a defense and Spain just controling and dominating the whole match. If it wasn't for Emi Martinez, Argentina would've conceded so many goals. At last can't forget about the most important moment of the match: the winning goal from none other than Ferran Torres the SHARK!!! So happy for him, he deserves this moment after everything he has gone through. The whole crowd erupted, fireworks were lit, beer thrown all over the place, Spain flags all waving in the air. This was truely beauty in chaos... During this final I lost my voice, whole body was sweaty asf, my feet totally bruised up and my spine couldn't hold it anymore from standing the whole match. Loved every single second of this experience. This city is truly magical. Its people, the culture, the weather, just so many things are amazing. I feel extremely lucky to have experienced such a big event in Barcelona out of all places haha. Truly a dream come true... Thank you football and thank you Bookd community ❤️

And with that FIFA World Cup 2026 has come to an end, watched all the 104 matches and enjoyed so many. There is a lot to say about this World Cup, but let me just focus on how I feel about this final. At first, I thought I would be happy no matter who won since I support both teams. But maan this is Messi! He was my childhood, my teenage years, and now my adulthood. I wasn’t ready to witness his last World Cup dance end this way. What an awful performance from the team except for Emi he was fighting alone :( Messi was the best player in this tournament. Argentina weren’t convincing, and in almost every match we expected them to lose, but then my GOAT did what he always does. He delivered a historic performance and carried this Argentina team all the way to the final. I felt every emotion throughout these crazy matches and made so many unforgettable memories. All I wanted was for football to reward Messi with another World Cup as a gift for everything he showed in this tournament :( I couldn’t hold myself together when I saw his tears while his fans were chanting his name 🥺 Also with Licha getting injured I honestly wasn’t in the mood either, hope he makes a speedy recovery 💔 In the end, I want to say that I’m just grateful that I got to witness the Messi era.

Fair enough. For the neutral I’d hope it was a good watch. We’ve all chatted our shit but only one of us will back it up. I’m proud of the team today, I believe that loss was on the manager’s subs and sitting back tactically against the team that has comeback in its DNA. Something I’ve been particularly happy to see is players who have proven me severely wrong this tournament. Guys I doubted who made me look like a fool. Today, Djed Spence and Anthony Gordon epitomised that. I wouldn’t have taken Spence before the tournament but I believe him, Gordon (who I believed was worse than Rashford for the group stage) and Pickford may well have played the best games of their lives and that should not be understated or overshadowed. I will give my congratulations to Argentina. I have a severe disliking for a lot of the players who have video evidence of them being racist to opponents, however a country is also its fans, and the fans will be over the moon today, which will be great for them. It is what it is haha, well done guys (but I still hope you lose because I predicted Spain to win the wc from before it started). That being said, I will still walk into Buenos Aires with a £1 coin and crash your economy like Mansa Musa spreading his gold around various African economies. This game was not “rigged” though, and Argentina won fairly, to quash a common agenda that people will inevitably spread. Til next tournament, COME ON ENGLAND!!! ❤️🏴🦁🦁🦁

Insane that I wrote a whole paragraph about Messi, how he changed my life and they way I see football and he still made the way to surprise me even more. Leo Messi, you’re insane. My dream about Argentina and Spain playing together came true. Culés, Sunday is our day. Let’s enjoy it while we can.

Spain dominated from the start, according to my gimmick i have to talk about the midfield again because i have every single game of Spain. They used the midfield they had in 2024 again, yayyyy!!! Took until quarter finals but they now use a good midfield again for two games in a row. I do of course like Pedri, but with Olmo and Rodri he doesn’t work. With this midfield they perfectly dealt with France their entire attack which often went through Olise down the middle. While the French wingers both were dealt with easily too, and also had a bad game. More or less completely nullifying the deadly French attack, especially Mbappé who couldn’t be reached. Digne with just an awful challenge that led to the penalty after generally a good tournament by him, definitely because he left Villa. Spain just deserved this one, they came out with a plan to beat France and they worked it out perfectly. They will be huge favorites to win the final. A great tournament by France nonetheless, obviously wouldve hoped for more but losing to Spain is not a shame. Not the greatest of fans of Deschamps as a manager but he has done an incredible job for 14 years now and deserves a nice retirement. Very excited about France being led by Zidane though. Fun stat, never has someone who won the Ballon d’Or before the world cup, gone on to win the world cup, lmao. Man of the match is Fabian Ruiz for me, the man was just everywhere and he makes this midfield work. I think he’s generally very underrated as well. Such a good player.

I feel so vindicated after saying throughout the tournament that if there was one team who could stop this French 'super attack', it is Spain. This Spanish side is so perfectly built to counter the exact kind of football the French like to play and have proven to be a thorn in their side for a few years now. The way they completely neutralized this French front 4 by just keeping, passing, and not allowing the French to have any time on the ball was an absolute joy to watch. This domination almost reminded me of the 2010 squad, not with as much 'aura', but just so incredibly professional. As much as I love Pedri, I do have to say that a midfield of Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, and Olmo just works so well. The thing with Pedri is that he often does a lot of the work that Rodri already does for the Spanish NT. This makes it difficult for him to have a consistent role in this team as it leads to DLF pushing him forward, which just is not his role. Fabian, on the other hand, has a completely different profile which complements Rodri and Olmo much better, and that was seen today as Spain's midfield 3 completely nullified Tchouameni and Rabiot. Olmo, also, has quietly had yet another excellent tournament for Spain while Rodri is back to bossing the midfield and dictating the entire tempo of the game like he never had that ACL injury. It also didn't help that France just allowed Spain to take so much control, and outside of a couple of long balls from deep and long shots, they barely managed to create anything of substance. It's almost as if they'd accepted their fate as soon as Porro scored the second and never once managed to threaten Simon (outside of that one brainfade moment). Special shoutout to Cubarsi who has had an unreal tournament at the heart of a Spanish defense that has been rock solid throughout. If Spain manages to win the entire thing, he, for me, would be a massive contender for not only YPOTT (which pretty much seems locked on at this point) but also POTT.

Why didn’t France play Olise this game he would have been a game changer against this defense

How one day you think you have it all, then the next absolute heartbreak and devastation... I've had to redo this review because this was one of the influential Youri Tielemans games. What a player, what a guy. When he first arrived, we were told by some Leicester fans that he was "finished". He was "slow", "overweight" and wasn't any good. How wrong were they... He took a few months to adjust to the Emery system, in and out of the first team. But when he settled, man we had the best ball playing midfielder in the Premier League. I've shared this story with @leslieee ,when Youri and the Villa squad went to visit Birmingham Children's Hospital, he was so kind to my friends sister. Amazing human being that will be deeply missed by all of us at Aston Villa. I'm glad he left on such a high note. Good luck Youri, we love you 💜💙

Tough match, tough luck. Spain played a better match than us, they were more organized than us and that gave them the deserved win. For us it was already difficult before the match even started with Tielemans injured during warm-up and also Onana with his ACL injury, he was truly missed this game. Afterwards, Courtois getting injured mid-game, KDB getting old and at last Doku just not performing well at big games like this, just not putting any efficiency in his game. This World Cup was full of surprises for us especially after the Senegal match with Lukaku showing his magic. He was truly the reason why this campaign was so exciting to watch and show what he had in store and wow he did not disappoint. He's the greatest striker Belgium will ever have and no doubt a legend. Will never hate him no matter what. I will miss him a lot...❤️ The boys need to keep their heads high because the next generation of players have a lot of potential. Raskin, Ngoy and Moreira surprised me the most. Hopefully they reach their potentials in their careers in the future. Much love to Spain. Will be rooting for them till the end for my Barça boys. VAMOS!!!

Spain's strategy this WC is one that is incredibly simple. They will bore the opposition to death by passing around for 90 minutes, and then hit them with the Merino dagger off the bench. And, ngl, it's working.

i don’t even know where to start with this match. i genuinely went into it expecting argentina to come out on top, so that first goal definitely rocked me. weirdly enough though, i was calm. i think seeing messi live and knowing he already has a world cup has settled something in me. even if today had been the end, i don’t think it would’ve changed what he’s already accomplished. and then football reminded me exactly why i love it so much. there’s something so beautiful about watching a team that has already won everything still fight like they have nothing. you could see the desperation grow. every tackle, every run, every chance suddenly carried so much more weight. i can’t even imagine what that stadium sounded like. even messi looked off today, but then that late goal happened. holy fuck. i’ve always said messi taught me how to believe. he taught me patience, hope and perseverance. once again, he reminded me why. i do wish scaloni had changed things earlier. i still don’t understand some of the lineup decisions. but none of that matters right now. i’d already accepted that maybe this was the end, but i’m a sucker for a fairytale. they’ve already shaken hands with greatness once. who’s to say they can’t do it again?
