Argentina3 - 0Benin

Boy oh boy where do I even begin. Lionel... honey, my pookie bear. I have loved you since I first laid eyes on you. The way you glide past defenders and strike fear into your enemies' eyes. Your perfectly dewy symmetrical shimmering touch on that football, your gorgeous little left foot, and that devastating dribbling. I would do anything for you. I wish it were possible to freeze time so I would never have to watch you retire. You had a rough childhood, but you never gave up hope. You are even amazing off the pitch, you're a great friend, father, captain, sometimes I even call you my honey bunch sugar poo cutie pie. I forever dread and weep, thinking of the one day you will retire from club football. I would sacrifice my own life if it were the only thing that could put a smile on your beautiful face. You have given me so much joy, and heartbreak over the years. I remember when you lost the 2014 World Cup final and it's like my heart broke into a million pieces and I couldn't go back. But a poo still fell from my right eye when I saw you finally lift that beautiful World Cup trophy in Qatar, because deep down, my glorious king deserved it. I just wanted you to be happy. But alas, you did, my sweet babypoo was happy and I rejoiced. That night was a hard night for us baby, but the dawn afterwards you made history happen. You became a World Cup champion. I couldn't believe it. I was crying, bawling even, and I heard my glorious king lift that trophy while the entire world watched. Not only have you changed the art of football and the world forever, but you've eternally changed my world. The goals, the assists, the trophies, the impossible dribbles, the free kicks, the little celebrations. eveery single moment has been engraved into my poo. And now you've gone to the twilight of your career, but still the goat, MY goat. I love you (poo)kie bear, my glorious king, Lionel Messi.

Croatia0 - 7England

One of the most one sided games I've seen in a while, the game was already done in the first half. Although Croatia should've had one goal with a sitter missed by Mateo Kovacic, it would've been far from deserved. England were better on every aspect and you could absolutely argue the scoreline flattered Croatia, it was extremely embarrassing for those top level players on their home soil to show absolutely no fight, at the end I felt bad for the schoolchildren in the crowd who had to watch that mess 😭

England
Portsmouth1 - 4Arsenal

Over the past few months this game, despite the owning of Portsmouth that it was, has become very important to me because of the impact it holds on those pesky arsenal (and other) friends of mine (and the scoreline becoming a running joke) by @alf, age 20

Horrible start, but England made a decent account for ourselves as the game went on. Extremely silly from Guehi to make an error like that so early, literally no need to turn and hand it on a plate. England responded really well and had some really good and positive plays. Gordon with a lovely linkup with Bellingham and finish using his unmatched pace. Then Kane with a header that was comically guided in by Cucurella, made everyone but the Spanish laugh I think. England had a fortunate penalty in the second half blazed over by Harry Kane, which my dad and myself BOTH called he'd miss. From then Spain took their chances with England being so casual in defence, as usual, after many good combinations in the attack leading to squandered chances. This is what happens though, make mistakes and you get punished, especially against the World Champions. We go again, I was impressed with Gordon, but there was one player who stood out, Jarrel Quansah. The only good defender tonight, he worked his socks off in both defence and attack, so he's my MOTM for England. Overall MOTM is probably Lamine Yamal, didn't do a lot but the stuff he did do was quality and was a huge factor in Spain winning the game.

I've been tagged in a lot of reviews! Sorry if I miss anyone Super John McGinn as usual being a beast in Europe!

Club Brugge KV2 - 3Aston VillaI'm not gay but I want to live in a log cabin in the woods with Zion Suzuki. We won't ever have sex, but there will be a simmering erotic undercurrent as I stand in the kitchen window watching him tighten his ass as he chops wood, shirtless, sweat pouring off his body. I'll run upstairs and masturbate, the entire time forcing myself to think of women while my thoughts drift back to Zion Suzuki. I won't be able to climax and I'll eventually go back downstairs, angry. Sometimes we will look across the table and catch each other's eyes, and in that second, anything is possible, but we both deny ourselves and go back to what we were doing. One day one of us will die, and the other will bury him outside the log cabin. Then he'll go inside, pen a brief missive to his departed friend, and commit suicide, never able to deal with life without his one true platonic love.

In Bruges achieves the very difficult task of being both hilariously funny and tragically sad. This is a combination that director Martin McDonagh and stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson perfected in The Banshees of Inisherin, but the formula came from this film. Our two protagonists both contrast and mirror each other in their outlook on life. Farrell feels the emotional weight of his life as a hitman. It’s something he’s good at but he struggles greatly with the morality of his work and who gets caught in the crossfire. Gleeson has a more melancholic feel about his performance; he’s blocked out the emotions of it all a long time ago and does his job without complaint. He still feels, just not enough to care. This film asks the intriguing moral questions of if we can truly change, and whether it is our actions or how we feel about our actions that defines if we are a good or bad person. Despite the underlying sadness and deep philosophical nature of In Bruges, the film is very funny, with the American tourists, Farrell’s dwarf theory and Ralph Fiennes’ destruction of a telephone all providing genuine laughs. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you enjoyed Banshees. A wonderful piece of Irish storytelling. I would also recommend The Guard, also starring Brendan Gleeson, and Don Cheadle, which is another hilarious Irish film. Fun fact - The Guard is actually directed by Martin McDonagh’s brother John. Another funny Irish one I’d suggest is The Young Offenders. They made it into a TV series after which is still going despite the actors being in their 30s, but the movie is better. Fun fact - The actress who plays the woman at the hardware shop appears in the current season of The Traitors Ireland. Follow for more film reviews and fun facts.

Chelsea4 - 3Brighton

Great game, Chelsea's attack looks absolutely lethal, but it's the complete opposite at the other end of the pitch. Still leaking goals even with a new GK, in Emi Martinez. I think Xabi Alonso still had has a lot of work to do in defence if Chelsea want to be title challengers, he's got it nailed on in attack though with that front 3 of Palmer, Pedro and Rogers. I hope Rogers does well at Chelsea, 2/2 good games so far for him. The thing I warn Chelsea fans about is he's very much a purple patch player. At Villa he didn't turn up often when the going got tough, but he is absolutely a quality player when he has confidence and form. Hopefully he can change that and consistently turn up with a much better attacking line than he had at us. For Brighton, I think they'll be top of the mid table group this season. Not a good defensive performance whatsoever. They weren't that convincing defensively against Villa, it was only the fact that we had no striker that mainly cost us, otherwise we could've been 1 or 2 up in the first half. They are in a similar situation to Chelsea, great attack especially with Yalcouyé coming in, he looks sharp. But I just think the super attacking fullbacks and the slowness of Dunk x Vuskovic will cost them too many goals this season, mixed with European Balance, I don't see them getting in another European spot this season. However, I do believe they will win the Conference League, so that will get them Europa League nonetheless. MOTM is between Palmer or Rogers, went for Rogers as Palmer got it against Fulham. Sharing is caring!
