Leeds4 - 1Newcastle
MNF turned up and was the best game of the gameweek. Elland Road under the lights is tough to beat, Newcastle not particularly poor but just had it tough. Think they’ll be fine in their next run of games, especially as it’s a nice run.
Man United0 - 1Man City
Horror watch as a neutral with the red killing the game. Like Maresca said post game, the red almost suited City as they had to set up in a low block which United simply don’t have the creativity to beat. That being said, City dug deep physically and played well. Obviously the goal should have been disallowed but they deserved the 3 points without a doubt. Carrick needs to change something, and quick.
Coventry0 - 5Brighton
cov unlucky in my opinion, had their chances in the first half but verbruggen equal to it. that being said brighton’s quality was superior and statpadded from the red card, which was poor from awonyi as he ruined any chance of cov to get back into the game.
Tottenham0 - 0Everton
YAWN spurs had spells of good football but had no end product. was somehow easy for everton to fend them off despite a ropey first 20 minutes or so. everton also poor, especially barry. looked ineffective battling with the spurs centre halves and needed replacing but everton’s depth poses an issue.
Union Berlin1 - 3Schalke 04FIRST WIN BACK terrific first half and played our way to a 2-0 lead. but dropped too deep in my opinion and allowed union to gain momentum, even scored a goal to create a stressful last 10. some terrifice football played nonetheless and some great goals on our behalf. gosens great volley against former club, adil’ stunner just onside in the end & maxi finishing up a great counter to seal all the points.
Chelsea6 - 3Leeds4 star match review might seem harsh but that first half was DREADFUL, we couldn’t string a pass together and Leeds had full control. That being said, second half was a terrific watch and made up for missing UCL night. Palmer and Rogers were absolutely sensational, a different level of class. Looked back to our best with Leeds helpless, thought Farke could have made his subs quicker in attempt to prevent what happened.
Barcelona5 - 1Feyenoord
Barca looked red hot going forward, still thought they looked vulnerable on transition but Feyenoord didn’t make it too difficult for them. Adeyemi goal in the first half was special and Raphinha looked sharp throughout. Yamal was quiet until his late game stat pad where Feyenoord turned off.
Club Brugge KV2 - 3Aston Villa
- Entertaining game at the expense of it being pretty low quality. Neither team looked sharp and defended poorly throughout. - Some well taken goals however. For me McGinn’s was the best out the bunch, such a satisfying goal which he made look easy. - One particular standout was Carlos Forbs. Every time he got the ball he looked dangerous and he had a brilliant shot on target which was well saved, and had a couple crosses which should have been put away. - Player ratings attached.
Arsenal2 - 1Chelsea- Defeat doesn’t feel as bad under these circumstances. Made a game out of the hardest fixture all year and with some luck could have walked away with a point. - With that being said Arsenal were good today and played some positive football for a change (standouts being Havertz & Odegaard), it will take some stopping to prevent them winning the league again unfortunately. - At least we walked away with Rogers hitting the Henry cele at the Emirates #boom. - Player ratings attached.
Everton2 - 2Man United- Neither team had a strong control for a lengthy period of the game but United will have to see this as 2 points dropped with the timeliness of the goals. - A forgettable first half was followed by a great 2nd half for the neutrals, I thought all the goals were good but were helped by some dreadful defending by both teams. - The AMN goal was the best of the bunch by some way and deserved to be the equaliser at the death, great way to end the game. - Player ratings attached.
Schalke 040 - 0Bayern
- An honour to watch as a fan. An unspoken amount of endurance and fight was on display as we denied Bayern to score for the first time in 58 games. - Game plan was a masterstroke from Muslic we just lacked a pace on the counter attack to punish Bayern. - Kompany complacent with his XI and was punished for it, Olise changed the game when he came on but Vitalie showed levels we know he can reach to match the energy down out left hand side. - Player ratings attached.
Ipswich0 - 2Liverpool
- Entertaining first 10 minutes but that was all the game had for the neutrals. Liverpool started the game well and were able to play in a lower gear for the rest of the game. - Isak sharpest game out of the starting 3 and Liverpool will be happy they were able to rest him for the remaining 30 minutes of the game. - Wirtz struggled again, no excuse tonight as it was a great opportunity to get his season running. - Ipswich, so poor. They let Liverpool win the game in 10 minutes and will struggle to get points for the foreseeable if they continue like so.
Man United5 - 2Ipswich- Good level on entertainment via the goals but the quality was very low. Both teams looked uncomfortable defensively, particularly Ipswich in the 2nd half. - Weirdly enough don’t think United were good at all. Even going forward, still think they were poor for the majority of the game and it didn’t entirely click. Odd to say but despite a goal and an assist, Mbeumo was poor and is lacking confidence. - Ipswich were so poor and invited goals, the big dutchman in goal kept the score low enough to not make it too embarrassing. - Player ratings attached.
Chelsea4 - 3Brighton- Box office Chels we’re so back. Brilliant exciting football which I hope to continue against the low blocks we generally struggle to play against. - Think we had another good game just had some complacency issues after going 3 goals to the good, 1st and 3rd goal for Brighton was poor on our behalf but 2nd was a freak accident. - Definitely gaining confidence and a reasonably good time to go to the Emirates, if there ever is a good time. - Player ratings attached.
Crystal Palace1 - 4Man City- Very one sided match, but City had a job to do and certainly did it. City much improved from last week but thought Palace were poor, their goal came from almost nothing and they really need to up the energy if they want to get some points on the board. - City will be happy to see Haaland get a couple goals flowing to install the confidence for the upcoming run while Cherki got his deserved start and possibly had his best game in a City shirt. - Player ratings attached.
Chelsea2 - 0Luton
- Tempo of the game was really slow and didn’t make it a very enjoyable watch but a win is a win. - From a Chelsea perspective it could’ve and should’ve been more goals, created quite a lot but with a mix of some good saves and some bad misses it was only 2 goals on the day. - Thought Estevao was particular poor, I know it was his bit of skill that was created the second goal but some underwhelming touches and should’ve had at least 1 goal tonight. - Lacroix again really strong following the Fulham game but this time in a back 4, he’s already proving to be an important signing. - Won’t let me do rating for this game but my standouts were Gusto, Palmer, Lacroix and Josh Keeley in the Luton goal.
Chelsea
Nott'm Forest0 - 2Leeds- Bad game to watch as neutral, lack of entertainment and quality. But either way, job done for Leeds who will be more than happy to get back to back wins at the city ground in a quick turnaround. - Leeds controlled a huge proportion of the game, Forest had a good spell after making subs. But Leeds quickly matched that and got the decisive goal to take the game away from them. - Expected more from Glasner’s new side when going forward but maybe it’ll take more time than first anticipated, but we shall see with time. - Player Ratings Attached.
Fulham2 - 3Chelsea- Really enjoyable watch despite having moments of the game where we were backs against the wall. Exciting attacking football and had real moments of quality, especially from Palmer. - Both teams looks really shaky on the ball moving the ball from the back and this encouraged the attacking players. - From a Chelsea perspective, I thought it was a really positive game and fully deserved the win. Lovely to see the attackers enjoy themselves just hope there’s a consistency to this as these guys can win games, even when Sanch lets us down like he did today. Must say I’d stick with him, last thing these new defenders need is a new keeper behind them each week. - Despite my doubt in Fulham, they had spells of good football and really enjoyed a long ball down the left hand side. They made life difficult for us in the end but I do still think they’ll have their struggles this season. - Player ratings attached.
Newcastle2 - 2Liverpool- Newcastle had a hold of the game with the atmosphere behind them but Liverpool strong enough to walk away with a point. - Don’t think either team actually played that well but made it an entertaining watch. Isak was the talking point and both the Newcastle fans/players made life hard for him, he should have come off as he was unable to offer anything (smart choice to give the penalty to Szob). - Both teams transition was slow and poor, with poor decision making in the final third. Think this was a game that could have finished with few more goals. - Ratings attached.
Man City2 - 1Bournemouth
- Bournemouth played better than City over the course of the match but city subs changed the game (Cherki in particular). - Antonio Silva my MOTM despite Cherki changing the game, he kept Haalands chances limited and impressed me with his overall game. - Ratings attached.
Dortmund1 - 2Bayern- Back to back successful hatewatch this time for a S04 perspective. - Dominant first half from Bayern but took their foot off the gas in the second half which allowed Dortmund back into the game. - A few good goals to be fair. Brown kicked it off with an effort which left Kobel unmoved (surprised to see Brown play in the 10), Olise with a glimpse of quality as he slotted home and Fabio Silva finished off with a well worked goal. Game could have easily have found itself going to extra time if Beier took his late chance, which he should have. - Bensebaini stood out for all the wrong reasons with an offside goal, hesitancy which allowed Olise to drift past him and score and a red card. Which in his defence was never a red, I felt as if this only stood due to the timing of the game. - Ratings attached.
Brentford3 - 0Tottenham- Brilliant hatewatch topped off by some beautiful football being played and sangare FPL points. - Bees were top notch in all departments and if they’re better away from home than last season, then they should really mount a serious europe charge. - Spurs’ lineup was poor and it showed. Moore should have put a chance away, but his defence was the main issue. The goals and other chances came too easy with Kinsky not helping out either, especially for the 2nd goal. - Ratings attached.
Hull City2 - 0Man United- Wasn’t that locked in on the game but Hull definitely deserved the win. Started the game bravely and put themselves in a position to play a low block second half, United toothless going forward. - From what I watched, I’d have said Mendy but noticed United poor performances more so. Dorgu awful first half and thought the whole front line was out of ideas all game. - Ratings attached but likely to be not as accurate.
Arsenal3 - 0Coventry- Was an enjoyable watch with not much hope pending on Cov. Arsenal needed to start the game strongly and they did, an early goal allowed them to control the game and ultimately manage/rest for the final half hour. - Tzolis sole standout but HM specifically to White and Calafiori who pinned the Cov wingers back all game and didn’t let them break much at all. - Cov game plan depended on Simms and he was pants, hard game to play granted but gave nothing to the midfielders all game. - Player ratings attached.
Arsenal3 - 0Man City- Unsuccessful hatewatch. - Arsenal played some brilliant football (odegaard, tzolis & white were standouts for me). - City well off it and intensity treated the game like a friendly (still think they will up the level come bournemouth next weekend). - Ratings attached for each team.
