What a day this was, 9 year old Theo was in dreamland with jubilant family around. Tim Sherwood gets a lot of stick for his time at Villa, most of it is rightfully so with his stubbornness in management, but let us not forget the memories he helped create in this FA Cup run. "Super Jack" Grealish making a name for himself this season and this was the biggest statement of them all, toying with Liverpool at every given chance. Prime Christian Benteke was something to behold, without shadow of a doubt he kept Villa up for multiple seasons with his lethal finishing. We all know this was the match that Liverpool saw him as a gem, a shame he didn't work out there in the end. His sale really hurt Villa and ultimately guided us to a dismal 20th place the next season, but I'm not here to dwell on the dark times. Fabian Delph leading by example with the armband, still scoring one of the most satisfying goals I've seen in football. Maybe I am biased, but the backheel from Benteke, the through ball from Grealish and then the cut back inside and the way the ball just bobbled over Mignolet into the back of the net, wow. To some it may seem like a simple goal, but Villans such as myself still remember every second to this day. The players defended for their lives at the end, Richardson with a goal line clearance, Given with his experience in helping us get over the line. And although there was a refereeing error in disallowing a Balotelli goal, I think we were definitely deserved winners for the passion those players gave on the pitch, something we didn't really see all season. Even when we were 1-0 down to a tidy Coutinho finish, I felt a spark telling something good is to come on this day. And it did. The 2010s don't give many good memories for Aston Villa, maybe why we all fondly remember this game, but I'm glad I do. I remember bragging at school about the result, I believe I earned it with the banter directed at my club constantly. We don't speak of the final though...

my first heartbreak as a blade. also my first trip to wembley. 13 year old me would soon learn that we just don’t do play-offs well from what i remember of the game, it was incredibly tight and there was almost nothing between both sides then came the penalties! it was going pretty well until it was decided that the goalkeepers would take a spot kick. smithies buried his away first, but simonsen? decided to boot it right up to the moon. i’m convinced it’s still floating around there maybe i have a very clear memory of a man angrily pushing a ketchup dispenser while on the phone to someone when we swiftly left following the penalty kick that still gives me nightmares today. despite that, i look back on it quite fondly being my first wembley experience also, not so fun fact: simonsen got found out for betting on multiple games a few years later. he had left us by that time though (unfortunately i don’t have any photos. think they got deleted from the camera we took to the game)

Honestly was not expecting much from today since we played on Sunday and you could see how many of our players were tired so in the end I am okay with this result. This was definitely our hardest opponent in the league phase and considering Lyon has insane form atm, scoring on average 7.5 goals per match, it could've been much much worse. At least we are the first team to make them lose points this season so one thing to be happy about. A strong shift from Buurman and Hampton today. Wish Sonia did more changes though, could've benefited from having Sandy or Dragoni on the pitch but eh, no point in talking about it now. So proud of all of the girls and I hope they get their well deserved rest now. UTC 💙

A few days ago Istra 1961 organized a meet and greet where I had the chance to meet my no.1 client atm, Emil Frederiksen, and my honorary client, Jan Paus-Kunšt. I had a lovely time and they were both so nice and talkative. I told Jan I hope he gets more minutes this season and he went into a rant that it is about time he plays more 😭 I am worried he will jump our no.1 keeper lol. Emil said he is really happy here and he loves the city, the team and the food. He was so excited that I brought the jersey to sign. Ghana était un peu nulle mais tant pis. personnellement je ne suis pas d'accord avec la décision de l'arbitre d'accorder ce penalty mais… notmyproblem innit. no i do feel a bit bad the penalty was def fraudulent. one day caf will invest in VAR for the qualifiers. but also côte d’ivoire étaient la meilleure équipe #imo like ghana’s attack was so lackluster and lowkey whenever they had big chances they started running awfc gimmick (not shooting on target) anyways you will see ghanaians mad bc of the penalty and they’re right to be mad but also they were never gonna win this pen or no pen. also saw some of them say yalcouye dives and nah there was contact but that was not at alll penalty worthy. kessié ate when he took it tho. also !!! so excited to see this ivory coast team when diallo is back… the attack gonna be something serious. defence needs a bit of work ik fofana was stressed af in goal. think we started really well tbh, first half was mostly us attacking them, but they did have a few good moments, early goal was definitely earned from valerenga. we had 3 really close together chances around 30 minutes in, one that we had to do better with, valerengas defence was sloppy and those are the moments we gotta capitalise on, the second was just a long shot that we missed completely and was never really a threat for valerenga, third was a great shot and an even better save in fairness to birkisdottir. we were definitely the better team in the first half. think our equaliser was a bit lucky, managed to sneak past every defender and into the goal tbf. big fan of the celebration with the subs. Torri dellaperuta is just in such good form lately second half started well, early goals set the tone for the rest of the second half, and who else would it be but torri della peruta! TDP had a header to a pretty much open net from a couple of feet out and somehow missed, anyone but her and i’d be calling for a sub out of annoyance, but you can’t be annoyed at a player in her form. 3rd goal was just superb, tidy goal, insane finish. lovely long shot from outside the box. game seemed to die off a bit after the third from a feyenoord perspective, still managed to score a 4th, good goal tbf very good, bad from valerenga, the pass forward toward the box was way too easy, and the final assist pass was just awful defending. favourite goal was by far Kirsten van de Westeringh, just a gooood shot from distance POTM is so obviously torri, just insane atm, best season of her career already, bright season ahead for her.

We were the better team but this is sadly just one of those games where nothing we did or would do would end up in the net. Mostly because Josipović decided to give a performance of a lifetime and stop even the impossible shots. Thanks to him Gorica got their first win of the season. Player wise, I think our best player were Frederiksen and Šepić. Sadly all of Frederiksen incredible shots were stopped by Josipović. Also I guess Tomich can only score against 4th tier clubs. Once again Kadušić came on in the last moments of the game and right after we conceded a goal. Sure, the goal is not on him but he weakens our defense instead of strengthening it and we will always concede with him on the team. We always seem to struggle in the last minutes and we need to fix this as soon as possible. Last game against Rudeš was a wake up call that we clearly did not listen. Most bizarre moment was power going out in the 2nd half. This is the 2nd time this has happened, just thankfully this time it did not happen at a crucial time. I hope the city and the club make sure this does not happen again because it is embarrassing. Forza Istra 💚💛
