Huddersfield0 - 0Sheffield Utdmy first heartbreak as a blade. also my first trip to wembley. 13 year old me would soon learn that we just don’t do play-offs well from what i remember of the game, it was incredibly tight and there was almost nothing between both sides then came the penalties! it was going pretty well until it was decided that the goalkeepers would take a spot kick. smithies buried his away first, but simonsen? decided to boot it right up to the moon. i’m convinced it’s still floating around there maybe i have a very clear memory of a man angrily pushing a ketchup dispenser while on the phone to someone when we swiftly left following the penalty kick that still gives me nightmares today. despite that, i look back on it quite fondly being my first wembley experience also, not so fun fact: simonsen got found out for betting on multiple games a few years later. he had left us by that time though (unfortunately i don’t have any photos. think they got deleted from the camera we took to the game)

the international break is boring me already, so here’s a review from one of my all-time favourite matches i’ve been known to complain about my club a lot but, as cringy as it sounds, they’ve honestly saved me during certain times of my life at this point in 2023, i was on the brink of losing my job due to severe burnout, mental health difficulties and failing to meet the demands from my employer. i could sense it was coming from meetings with my manager, i just didn’t know when the day would come (it ended up being a little over a week later) i wasn’t sure if i had the energy to attend this match, knowing i would be in the office the next day, but with a bit of encouragement from my dad i did in the end. there was a small amount of hope in me that we could get a result that night, remembering our incredible cup run in the 2013/2014 season. however, as time was ticking, i found myself saying to my dad “spurs will get a last minute goal” repeatedly turns out i was very wrong. a goal from our starboy ndiaye would send us to the quarter-finals (another match up there as one of my favourites) i’m not usually one to take photos/videos during matches, but as the chants echoed out across the stadium, the worries of my unstable work life went away temporarily i often look back at this video knowing how unstable my mental wellbeing was and how far i’ve come since. it was also a reminder that, although very cliché, everything was going to be okay. i might not have believed it back then, but i got through this difficult time regardless, and i have sheffield united to thank for that

very much a yin and yang kind of week as a sheffield united fan. played brilliantly on tuesday then normal service resumed today the referee was a wanker (all the efl referees are to be fair) but norwich outclassed us in every department. i predicted them to go up at the start of the season and i still stand by that. musaba was unreal and made our players look like they belong in a sunday league team i had a nice day out anyway! shame some stupid football club had to ruin it a little

not to be biased or anything, but this was the match to watch tonight. proper championship football. both teams desperate for all 3 points and you had no idea which way it was going bolton were unlucky not to get anything. they look like a solid team. based on those 90 minutes, i don’t think they’ll be in danger of going straight back down as long as they build on their defence, which was ultimately their downfall in this case given all of the noise outside of the club over the last few weeks, i think we played brilliantly. conceding after 25 seconds was ridiculous, but the way we fought back immediately after both goals was admirable hard to choose between cooper and donovan for POTM so just pretend they’re both there… onto saturday, first game of the season i’ll be attending! please don’t embarrass me bladesmen 🙏
