These are the kinds of performances you need in order to win leagues eventually, and even though we’re far from that, I’m glad Iraola knew how to react once we jammed a lead. Bournemouth are a good team, probably the best they’ve ever been, and they were probably up for it after winning in Europe and facing their old boss. James Hill was their most impressive player for me, and even though Rayan was the most flashy, Christie feels their scariest. As for us, Wirtz is a problem. I like the guy, but this is arguably the closest Bundesliga style pitch in the league, and to mess up that many plays was concerning. Klopp needs to get in his ear or something, because for us to be sacrificing a body in midfield for another attacker, means he had to do more. Same goes for Barcola, although he did have more moments today. Isak is nonexistent in general play but he’s at four goals this season - he can do ballet on the edge of the box for all I care, as long as he sticks it in the back of the net. Gakpo is playing like 19/20 Gnabry, simply unplayable, dribbling and jamming in the ball anywhere. Macca and Szobo will go under the radar today, as will Kerkez, but all three were really good at just making it hard for Bournemouth to play. Jacquet looks like the heir to VVD, for all the hate Hughes gets, he got that signing right. Look at Lacroix and Konsa this weekend, then look at Jacquet. The kid might surpass Varane in talent and achievement. Nyoni needs to play more. The fact he came on and we didn’t notice him, is a testament to the player he has become. To be that calm at 19, IN MIDFIELD, is incredible. He needs to be starting next to Macca. A word on Alisson. Simply the best GK in the league. How many times he’s saved us is insane, and for him to only have two leagues and a UCL is kind of disrespectful. He needs least another UCL here. Thought Iraola reacted well, closed up the team, and got us to October undefeated. Good weekend.

He doesn’t even look Liga de Acenso MX standard. Szoboszlai keeps being the worst and best player, so he’s worth keeping around. The McConnell and Koumas two-man showed the movement of two kids who were taught by Klopp, and I hope we see them in the league soon. Macca was a class above everyone on the pitch, and I felt like the result was never in doubt as long as he stayed on. Top 10 CMs in the world for me. Renew his deal. Also, average Mama game:

The only team that can make me feel that proud because of how bad they can be, but this was a real Niños Heroes game. The Titleholder’s opener, heartbreak at the last World Cup, a bruised team off of the Copa America humiliation and the Confederations beating one summer before. What unfolded for 90 minutes was a test of character, pride, and patriotism that only Mexico can offer. Every duel, shot, and pass was taken off a German and into the soul of the Mexican people. If only Mexico was as good as the belief its people have in it, we’d rule the world, or at the very least, be unbeaten world champions.

But sometimes a player has a match so bad you genuinely want to hug them and help them look for a new career. When Ryan Gravenberch came off today, I felt so sorry for him that I couldn’t even get angry at him. How a professional footballer missed that many short passes and got his position wrong that much was really frightening to see. His confidence is shot, and apart from a January move, Iraola should only use him for a Carabao Cup games. Wirtz, though. He wasn’t depression-inducing-bad, just regular bad, so I can be mad at him. He has until December to improve, or I’m shipping him off too. You can’t be wearing the #7 for this club and go missing like that. He kicks like he’s scared of the ball, and he hides behind Kerkez and Szoboszlai when he faces duels. Isak was not much better, but he touched the ball, so there’s that. Yet again, Dom was somehow our worst and best player. But at least he’s actually trying things, unlike Wirtz. Everyone else was meh, but VVD always does my head in with the nonchalant gimmick after a big game. Mate, it was Atletico in the group stage. You’re not prime Baresi to be able to stroll at 0-0 like that. For what it’s worth, Fulham played very well. Arbeloa clearly knew it was do or die, and gave up on his principles to revert to what Liverpool struggle most with: deep blocks. The only slight I’ll give to Iraola, because he can’t be blamed for his players being stupid divas, were his subs and handling of a deep block. You have to be more creative than crossing, and we were too open at the end because he took out all the height. Without Araujo and Barcola, we were left to be manhandled by Fulham. He will have to learn quickly how to best beat a low-block, and to bench the stars when they don’t shine. To sub off Barcola and Muñoz but keep on Isak and Wirtz when it was clear they weren’t at it, was absurd. Spurs next.

Fener will be a very tough visit this season for any team. Found it weird that Dybala played the full 90, probably gets a rest during the weekend. Gasperini will probably wish he got more than a point, but Malen was missing sitters. Think Svilar is in the top 10 GK in the world, and I could see someone like Atletico or Chelsea coming in for him once Oblak and Martinez leave. I’ve attached a GIF of 2026 Lukaku for the masses.

Davide Massa (born 15 July 1981) is an Italian football referee who officiates in Serie A. He has been a FIFA referee since 2014, and is ranked as a UEFA elite category referee. He is by far one of the worst referees I have ever seen officiate a match. He absolutely fell for Atletico’s and Simeone’s favorite dark arts bits, and he ignored a clear back pass from us. It is no wonder Italian football has fallen off so much when referees like these are the standard. I thought we weren’t good, yet we still deserved to win. Iraola experienced his first comeback win, and I have full faith in him as a manager. I was really impressed with how he set us up after we took the lead, it looked far better than anything under Slot. For the nostalgia merchants, KLOPP won most of our Anfield games like this. Sit back deep and counterattack while pressing like dogs. I thought VVD and Jacquet were excellent, and Kerkez was not as bad as the brain-rotted trolls claim. Our LWs always help our LBs defend, and I think Rio let us down in that regard. Szobo looks better, especially in how he connects with Wirtz. Muñoz looked like he had on the wrong boots when he came on. Gravenberch won us time by getting fouled, but he’ll need to be sold in the summer. Barcola looks like a player who hasn’t played since July, but his base looks promising. I was not surprised by that miss at all, he’s a player who takes 10 shots and misses 8. Frimpong doesn’t look half bad as a winger, but we’ll need Gomez back. Atleti have to be a social experiment by the way. How anyone can follow that team has to be a test of character. I hope we never see them again, and I can’t wait for United to face them. And to any United and Arsenal fans clowning Barcola, have fun with your unsigned Vinis and washed Rashfords.

Glad Feyenoord got a goal, they deserved it. Barcelona is a CB away from creating a dynasty. Thought Raphinha was very very good, a top 3 player in the world performance. The front three was very fluid, and just as I was about to say Yamal ghosted, he turned it up. Jesus looks good in Barcelona colors, as does Rodri. Barcelona play good football, and I hope we see them in the final this year. I’m tired of Atletico Madrid making semifinals unwatchable. Drop the Alvarez gimmick Barça and get yourself a certain Dortmund CB. GVB did as best as he could, getting out of Spain with a Dutch side still alive is the best you can do unless you’re 2019 Ajax.

A real Champions League feel to this one. Two terrible midfields and a lot of great saves. Weirdly got Switzerland-Argentina 2014 vibes to this one, too? Thought Chivu played a perfect game, Jones just once again proving how he’s a good player but never a great player. He made same mistake he made against West Brom in December of 2020. Martinez mandatory Serie A GK bozo moment, but the goal for Inter was deserved. Diouf impressed again. Real Madrid look very poor, and the renewal for Vini looks really stupid. Glad Arsenal didn’t get him, but I hate how him and Mbappe cancel each other out. Thought it was telling that Brahim looked better as a winger than Diomande. Pavard and Bastoni both showed why neither had top clubs coming for them (they wet the bed), while Bisseck showed why he and Schlotterbeck should be the German platform for the next few years. Lautaro showed again both the best and worst he has to offer. Di Marco was the biggest miss a team could have for a night like this. Both teams make the UCL better, but neither should be touching a QF.
