Spain1 - 0Argentina
Ah, the Men’s World Cup final, perhaps i will keep my review short this time. All 104 games watched, happy with that. I love watching this Spain side, it’s boring for most, but to me this is one of the most beautiful ways of playing football. The way they confidently pass the ball around with no fear, despite this being the biggest game for every single one of them, is just amazing. Really unfortunate to have Licha get injured, one of the best players of Argentina this tournament and so important for them. Spain had Argentina by their throats though for the first 45 minutes. 0 shots, 0 shots on target, no chances created, blah blah blah a lot of zeros for Argentina in the first half lmao. Really high intensity from a defensive perspective though of Argentina. Second half was more of the same, quite some chances for Spain but everything being shot straight at Dibu. Ref was really in control of the game though, he deserves his praises as well. What a way to fuck it up though from Enzo Fernandez, incredibly stupid challenge when you’re already on a yellow. Actual idiot. Great save from Dibu in the last minute though, good game from him. After 90 minutes 15 shots to 0 shots lmao. Argentina the first team to have 0 shots in 90 minutes of a World Cup final. Disallowed goal was weird, I’d probably agree with the ref but it was a bit weak. Weird Eric García and Zubimendi got subbed on, both had made 0 minutes all tournament. What a shot from Ferran Torres, all the slander this tournament but he does it when it matters most, incredible. Man of the match has to be Pau Cubarsí, insane performance and only 19. Lastly i really want to thank everyone who have liked my long ass reviews the past month and the kind words too, genuinely means a lot to me to be able to say everything i have to say about games and people actually reading that all ❤️❤️❤️. Club season will have more long reviews from me. Some stats in comments for those interested.

What a football match, I’m 0% Argentinian so this means a lot to me. What a game. We fucking did it

Argentina
USA1 - 4Belgium
sports gods did their thing and brought the karma down on usmnt. it’s really all just an unfortunate series of events for them. It has me thinking about what ifs as well. what if they didn’t recall the red card - would they have played better? it is impossible to separate politics from football, even moreso when our country has a facist, racist narcissist running the country and blabbing his mouth that he overturned the call when he probably didn’t do shit. the news/media coverage on this overturned call was a lot and I have to wonder if this played into the players psychologically, in particularly Balogun. I wouldn’t blame them if it did because these athletes are only human and all they want to do is play the sport they love. I have shared that supporting the USA, my country, is never easy for me. However, I will always support most individual players, especially some on this 2026 roster because we have a lot more in common. these players represent the best of us as a country, immigrants and children of immigrants who shape our intertwined culture. Pochettino was a great manager for this team and brought out the best in them, arguably one of the best usmnt rosters this country has had. this game and the event leading up to this is just an asterisk, albeit an ugly one but it must be remembered that the orange dipshit fucker in office wanted to make this about him rather than the team who (tried) to bring this country together during divisive and violent times.

Belgium
Mexico2 - 3England
Game of the tournament nothing comes even close what the actual fuck. Jude Bellingham proving me wrong and Jordan Pickford proving me wrong. Theres so much to say. A great start to the game, very close to each other, but Jude getting two great goals within 90 seconds of each other. Mexico scoring the 2-1 quickly after too to get into half time. Second half was so violent honestly, fair read for Quansah id say as well. Two penalties, one for each team to keep it 2-3. The moment Quiñones was subbed off it was kinda it for Mexico though, very strange decision. Gotta give credit to England, even though i called it after my Mexico - Ecuador review as well. England just have much more quality against a team that doesnt sit back. Obviously wasnt like that all game because of the red card. But the passion after that from all the subs as well was incredible, they put their lives on the line and thats something you only see in international football. Only 33% possession lmao. First team to beat Mexico at the Azteca in a World Cup game too. Its a unfortunate ending for a excellent Mexico this tournament, but they can still be happy i think all things considered, especially with someone like Mora being even better in 4 years. Having this World Cup classic at the Azteca made it a absolute 20/10 its not even close, my favorite World Cup game of all time. Ref was also great this game to keep a chaotic match in check. England - Norway will be a banger. Man of the match gotta be Jude though he was great, but honestly all of them were excellent. Just wow honestly this is what football is about.

England
Brazil1 - 2Norway
Honestly a great game from start to finish for me. Great start with an early offside goal. Soon after the penalty, with a great save from Nypan. Nypan had the game of his life i will take everything back i ever said about him, free agent currently as well. Vini was great, such a good player yet again. The trivela pass to Endrick in the second half had me smiling for a solid 30 seconds. The battles between Haaland and Gabriel were great as usual. Norway their midfield was incredible too, they dominated the midfield. Ødegaard specifically bossed the midfield. But who else than Haaland for Norway? And why not twice while he’s at it. He makes everything look so easy. He has scored in each of his last 14 games for Norway, has 7 goals in 4 World Cup games. First goal was already great, but that second goal was even better. What an incredible goal. Just get him a statue already, he’s 25 and already one of the most iconic Norwegians ever. Who would’ve thought that Brazil would eventually lose it all because their midfield is outclassed, i didn’t think it would be Ødegaard, Berg, and Berge to dismantle them completely though. Five games now between Norway and Brazil, the Norwegians are still unbeaten. Norway in the quarterfinals is absolutely fucking insane. I just love the emotion on their faces, even of Haaland who ive not seen cry before as far as i can remember lmao. Man of the match is not even tough, i do not care for Haaland scoring a brace. Nyland saved Norway on multiple occasions, with a penalty, with basic saves, and with one of the best saves of the tournament. So obviously it’s Ørjan Håskjold Nyland. That last penalty doesn’t even matter to be honest. Referee idiotic btw for needing a new kickoff as well.

Boring. @mcsauced these are the most seal-esque photos of my cat, I think he looks particularly seal-like in the 3rd one
USA2 - 0Bosnia & Herzegovina
First half went as expected for me, a attacking USA while Bosnia sits back, early on almost a olimpico from Bosnia but thats the only chance they got. Balogun with a disallowed goal but after that he did get the 1-0 finally. Only the third USA player to score 3+ goals on the World Cup, Bert Patenaude with 4 in 1930, and Landon Donovan with 3 in 2010. Second half yet again more of the same, rough red card for Balogun, i think its red but also unfortunate since he didnt mean it. But ive seen them given for less too and i think ankles and such should be protected this way. Even with 10 USA still was better. Super disappointing game from Bosnia. Made even worse when Malik Tillman scored the 2-0. I quite like this USA team, they play well and its enjoyable to watch, didn’t think id be rooting for them lmao. Bosnia never showed any intent to score, or maybe theyre just not good enough to even be able to try. Either way i expect a little bit more from them, they played like they lost the game at kickoff. USA - Belgium will be interesting and with Balogun suspended i really have no clue who i rate more. Edin Džeko is the oldest outfield player to have featured in a World Cup knockout game. Proper old timer did he even do anything this game lmao. Man of the Match Antonee Robinson for me, defensively was good and was dangerous a couple times on the offense too. Just put in a good shift and he deserves praise for that. Also another exact prediction so im still first on leaderboard, yayyyy.

USA
Netherlands1 - 1Morocco
Fuck off Feel like I need to give the Netherlands a proper review like I did Scotland but I’ll leave that there cause that’s how I feel at the moment. World cups for the Netherlands come around a lot more often than for Scotland, but somehow this one hurts a lot more. Nobody expected Scotland to make it out the groups, but nobody expected Netherlands to lose to Morocco either. We just don’t look like we have ambition. We don’t look like we want to make ro16 or further and that’s what hurts the most 💔 these men don’t play like they feel the privilege it is to represent their country at the World Cup. They have no fight in them. Verbruggen was one our only players who wanted to advance and without him we’d have lost 3-1 at least. It’s just so sad to see them play like this man 💔💔 So so happy for Cody Gakpo and his wife for him to get that goal at such a difficult time. To even keep playing was massive and admitable. I’m glad that this at least gives him and his wife the time together that they really need. The above showed that team really do back each other which again makes me question Koeman. The whole squad gathering around Cody when he scored brought tears to my eyes - but it really makes you question why they can’t be such a connected team when playing and it does lead you to Koeman. A moment for Koeman - leave the job I beg of you. Morocco constantly ruining my life this tournament 💔💔

South Africa0 - 1Canada
Writing this review this late will certainly reduce like ceiling (#bookdterminology), but I shall write it regardless out of love for my nation. Follow @taha for more #bookdterminology👍 Honestly not at all a good match, South Africa took very little risk going forward, and Canada played like the entire team was sleep deprived. It was incredibly annoying seeing us repeatedly getting into semi-dangerous positions, just for an improperly weighted pass or poor first touch to give South Africa sufficient time to recover. I can see why that would be boring to watch as a neutral, as an active supporter it was painful. Alphonso Davies is good at football. Tl;dr boring boring boring follow @carbonfiverr for more match analysis. 👍 The ‘FIFA Fan Festival’ is a disgrace to this sport. 18,000 people in a field in 30 degree heat with 1 singular water bottle refill station, wonderful. Thankfully you can purchase a bottle of water from the Coca-Cola concession stand for the low low price of $6.00 - Dasani water at that, not even a decent water brand. My ongoing theory is that Coca-Cola Corporation intentionally makes Dasani taste like pool water in the hopes that it makes soda seem more appealing to water in comparison, although I have no evidence for this. Completely corporatized event that sucks the soul out of the sport. The environment at Nathan Philips Square is significantly better despite having a miniscule screen that 95% of the crowd is unable to see as it feels as if it fosters a genuine sense of community, ‘FIFA Fan Festival’ kills said sense of community. Follow @mcsauced for more left-wing talking points. 👍 Wore my Spurs home shirt today, surprisingly only received 2 “what do we think of Tottenham”’s directed at me, and one was from my friend from high school. Very surprised at the kindness shown by Toronto gooners. Follow @coys for more Spurs content👍 follow @elz for more Gooner content (#doubleentendre)👍 Took a picture of CN Tower for bookd review👍

Well that’s our World Cup journey done. I can confidently say that it went just about as I expected when I realized what group we were in after that win against Bolivia in Guadalupe. However, I am still incredibly proud to have witnessed my country participate in this tournament for only the SECOND time in our HISTORY. I think that this group of players has the potential to do something in the future, as long as we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot. And that really is the best way to describe the three games we’ve played here. Shooting ourselves in the foot. Defensive error after defensive error after defensive error. Hopefully in the future, we don’t bottle our qualifying group, so that we don’t end up in the last chance qualifier and seeded to the group of death. I mean, had we not bottled it, we would have been in Jordan’s place, and potentially have an easier group stage run. Not much to say specifically about this game, we conceded early to a set piece (shock) and then received a red card to kill off any hope.

In honor of it being the 39th birthday of the greatest of all time, I have been looking back at the best matches of the career of Messi, 2011 in Wembley, 2009 in Rome before that, 16/17 El Clasico in the Bernabeu where he got battered and bruised against Marcelo and Ramos and still slotted it in to the bottom left corner but this match is the greatest match at the greatest stage for the greatest player. Argentina this campaign was coming off a hot streak of 34 unbeaten games and a Copa America win for Messi with them being heavy favorites to win it all, until that Saudi Arabia game and we all knew what happened, Dawsari scored to cause that upset, Saudi got a national holiday and Messi was in real danger of being knocked out of a chance to get the ultimate prize and then the Mexico Game also happened, Argentina was cagey against Mexico for the better part of 70 minutes until Messi does what Messi does best and bam, slots past Ochoa and from then, it was a full on rampage, G/A against every single opponent he faced, including a brace in this said final. I remember this game like the back of my mind with the game kicking off in a dominant fashion for Argentina, their fluid positional play and 2-0 by half time and my mind went back to my first memory of watching football, I am a Germany fan and that final was a moment where it felt like the hero losing despite everything that happened but I was clearly celebrating because of my team winning, karma really became something after that but let’s get back to Messi. My brother is an Argentina fan and I remember he never became this stressed in his entire life, heart attacks, slowed breaths, labored breaths infact but it was all worth it because of that one man, that one moment where he ended up being the best of all time, it was always a monkey on the back for him, Maradona, Pele, Ronaldo and 8 years later from that night in Maracana, he walked away with a full crown of jewels and as the king of the hill that night.
