You’re not leaving the game entirely, but stepping away from international football feels like the first step toward that day, which I can hardly bear to think about. Maybe the funniest way to honor you is to recognize what you did for millions of people: you made us willingly tune in and support Argentina, all to watch you play this little sport called football. I’m not Argentine, but somewhere along the way that stopped mattering. When you played, we all became a little bit Argentine. I’ll never forget the highs and lows I experienced following you. The 2014 World Cup final, when you were so close to conquering the sport so early on in your career. The back-to-back Copa América finals lost on penalties. But you deserved more than that. You got more than that. You finally lifted your very first international trophy in 2021. Of course I’ll always remember 2022, the greatest World Cup campaign I’ll ever witness, with the most entertaining final of all time. Then we got another Copa in 2024. You literally won every trophy that you lost, how perfect was that? After years of people saying you couldn’t do it for Argentina, you won everything there was to win. But the trophies aren’t what I’ll remember most. It’s the way you played, the way you always entertained me. The dribbles that made defenders look lost, the passes no one else could see, the free kicks that felt like penalties the moment the referee blew the whistle. You made the impossible look routine, and you did it with a quiet humility that made billions fall in love with you. This summer’s ending was bittersweet, and honestly, part of me wishes you’d won it. But you had nothing left to prove. You gave me more than I ever had the right to ask for: the story of your career. There will never be another player who can do what you did. You are football. You are eternal. Thank you for everything, Leo.

feeling the need to log another entry about this match: while i understand the action taken by the administration of bookd to moderate the chat mostly around israel, i would be remiss to not say something (serious, i’ve made plenty of jokes). football is inherently political. israel is committing a genocide. criticizing israel is not antisemitism. joking about israel and their inability to do anything but slaughter children is not antisemitism. while antisemitism does exist around the topic, i don’t agree fully with the decision to potentially lock all chats involving israel. i’m palestinian, living in america. i am only writing this whilst sitting on my couch in detroit because of geographical luck and the sacrifices of my family throughout generations. there are thousands of children and young people who do not and will not ever have this luxury. there are thousands of children throughout palestine and the greater levant who had their dreams stolen, either by amputation or death; dreams as small as one day playing football with their friends on a pitch without the threat of bombs or snipers. i think of these children every time i’m watching a match or talking to my friends about the game or in the stands. they deserved to live as we do. obviously, it’s not that serious here. this is a football app. however, i think shutting down everything around the discussion of israel and their football team is wrong and sends a strange message. again— rationally, i understand the decision. however, i cannot support what feels like a blind deflection of the responsibility that comes with handling this sort of subject matter. shoutout toni and olivia for all they do, but free palestine till it’s backwards. israel is committing a genocide, and we cannot let anyone forget or turn a blind eye to it. 🇵🇸 (forgive any strange wording here, i’m a bit fired up)

No adderall today so my review will not be as in depth. Missed a few critical chances late in the 2nd half and let Freiburg come back down one twice; this will be disappointing to look back at. However with how Freiburg has been playing, if you told me we’d come out of this match with points then id be quite content. Cock and Dick (koch and onyedika) have been quite disappointing this year but we only allowed 2 goals with 4 on the backline, so I am content with that. After 4 matches so far I think will at least qualify for the conference league this season.

FSV Mainz 051 - 3FrankfurtEintracht wins so it’s a 5 star Ts was sweet baby rays No beer in the Frankfurt glass because I have to drive to take the LSAT shortly. Just like Hütter’s first stint, we struggled greatly and then changed our formation and things started to stabilize; though oddly enough the formation we switched to today is what we started out with in 2018. Backline played much better, they didn’t allow nearly as many chances. Partly due to the switch to a 3-4-2-1 which allows us to create a bigger defensive block and dropping the wingbacks. It’s always great to win the Rhine Main derby, even though many Eintracht fans don’t like to recognize it as such because Mainz tried to insert themselves because of the 2003 relegation battle and their inferiority complex. Rather we primarily care about Offenbach and Darmstadt. Burkardt is amazing, when fit he is among the best in Germany. Always would buy him as a budget beast in FC manager careers as well. Kosugi showed MAJOR improvement from his abysmal first Bundesliga match against Union posting a 7.9 rating. Maluze has continued to impress with his aerial defense capabilities and posted an 8.3. What a penalty save from Atubolu as well. He allowed a strike at 89, while a great finish, was completely savable as it hit him on the inside of his leg before bouncing in; but I am very pleased with his play so far. Uzun heard me talking shit and finally looked like the best player on the team, as he’s supposed to be. Onyedika has been pitiful so far but I am hopeful he’ll eventually adjust as he is a good player . Brassier and Baum had good days as well. This was Brassier’s 2nd match with us and Elias Baum has much potential now that he’s playing in his more natural RB. While our record is only 1-1-1, I can express confidence from the fact that we have controlled momentum in all 3 matches so far and had the better xG in 2.

Could’ve basically started the game 1-0 down because Llorente was on the team sheet smh. Ref was horrendous, fell for the dark arts the whole game and gave the entire stadium headloss. We do look very weak in midfield and the passing is so sloppy, we don’t look like a team at all atm. Nobody even tell me what’s wrong with Barcola I don’t want to know, if I pretend it didn’t happen it didn’t happen. Mac Allister looks like he might be back, he was everywhere today. The goal was so cathartic for everyone, him included I think, judging by his celebration I LOVE RONALD ARAUJO! What a player! That pressing run in the first half gave me robbo flashbacks.
LiverpoolFrankfurt1 - 4Augsburg
We were extremely wasteful of opportunities in the first half and it came back to bite us. We completely dominated the first half and came out of half completely flat. Augsburg had 3 amazing strikes to the corner and far sides of the net. so I can’t blame Atu for much besides the 2nd goal allowed in which he failed to catch the ball and it subsequently bounced to the attacker next to him The backline still sucks but I am very hopeful that it’s possibly just a team cohesion issue as we have 3 new starters on the backline and 6-8 new starters depending on what lineup we choose. In Hütter’s first stint we started 1-1-3 and finished 7th that year, though I was never necessarily a huge fan of the rehire anyway; however his system is very exciting. Hopefully the winter window brings us a bountiful harvest as all we didn’t do too much in the summer per our plans; This team has shown great offensive potential but the backline needs to gel and help out Atu like they did in the first half where he faced 0 SOG. xG was roughly 2.6-1.8 in favor of Eintracht. Congratulations to Augsburg for topping the table for the first time in club history, and hopefully we can get back on track and go win the Rhine-Main “derby” next week. Ts was ogres.

Sherwood Colliery2 - 4Gainsborough Trinity
Took the extremely short trip to my local today as they hosted 7th tier side Gainsborough Trinity (Sherwood are in the 9th) and they gave it a very good go against a side who made it to the first round proper last season. First twenty-five minutes was all Gainsborough as they showed the difference in quality between the two sides and deservedly took the lead with a lovely shot into the bottom right corner before Sherwood equalised basically instantly through Jordan Preston and could've and probably should've taken the lead before half-time as they started to control the game, Kokkinos and York having big chances. Sherwood had a few chances early into the second half but none of them really challenged Robson in the Holy Blues net. Then Gainsborough scored two quick goals to basically confirm their place in the Second Qualifying Round before Theo Williams added a fourth in the last ten minutes to put the nail in the coffin for the hosts. The Wood did score a controversial goal in added time as Ronnie Kokkinos fired into an empty net which was nice to see as he's a former Mansfield player (and i was stood right next to his family) Sherwood have a beautiful view from their ground too and you can also watch the cricket team that's next door to the ground! Maybe the only chance i'll ever have to log a Sherwood Colliery game on here so i had to take the opportunity 🫡

And thats the hat trick for matches attended this week. Finally a win. Got some thoughts on this one. Jayden Meghoma and Tyrese Shade you sexy sexy fuckers. WOW. Two of the best debuts I’ve seen in a good while for us, probably since Lang or Sørensen. Thought Bielica showed why he deserves the start next week today. Distributed in ways Schmid couldn’t and made saves that were among Schmid’s best as well. BFS. My fucking god you are incredible. You are worth every penny and more and you deserved at least 2 today (should’ve been a hatty if you put that first half header in). Bielik you are a thug who grabs children by the throat. That kid and his mum got kicked out and Bielik didn’t get a booking (he was already on a yellow)??? Needs more than a ban he quite literally committed assault in front of 20,000 people. Cunt. I’m still not convinced if I’m honest. If you watched that game you’d notice sometimes it was all too easy for Cardiff to gain on us. Devlin once again looking shit (what’s happened Terry?) and the only reason we won 2-0 today is because Cardiff couldn’t finish their dinner. If both teams could actually play football this match wouldve been about 6-3.

Encore bravo à la ligue pour avoir suspendu une grande partie des ultras pour le premier match au Parc de la saison 👎

I was stupidly thinking of how you would turn up today and properly be up for it to honour two of Portsmouth's sons. I am appalled today. And I am so upset that I don't even have the capability to be mad today. Some of you did try, that should be acknowledged; but you win as a team and you lose as a team. Today you lost as a team, pathetically and with a whimper. You settled for second best and didn't push yourselves. You are lucky enough to have been given the second chance of another home game next on Saturday, honour Alan and Beau properly this time. Alan Ball once said "This is Portsmouth, people went to war from this city". The oldest thing this city knows is how to fight back and defend our honour. That is the bare minimum responsiblity you have as representatives of Portsmouth. You failed at that today. Do better on Saturday.

A much better performance than last week but a very disappointing way to lose. We always preach patience but it’s difficult when you’re sat at the bottom of the league. I’m not scared yet: the forward reinforcements should make a difference given more time but we were spoiled with the inevitability of Kane and Son for such a long time that having mortal finishers feels like a death knell for the club. I don’t think we’ll be relegated this season. I may be wrong but I think we’re improving. Maybe. Things will be fine, right? If they weren’t, I wouldn’t have seen this beautiful cat the other day.

Really disappointed by this match. Expected a lot more from Coventry as this is a game they really should be winning but they provided absolutely nothing. The stadium was also very empty and there was little to no atmosphere it was very weird. Frank made some strange subs and it came to haunt Coventry as one counter got Hull the win. Both defences were very solid, especially Hull’s, they look very strong at the back; Tzolakis is a great keeper and Ajayi is motm for me, he was great. Cov defence was also pretty good and their midfield of Grimes, Tchouna and Yirenkyi were also decent. But they gave nothing in the attack and they look in real trouble now, while Hull are flying. Pissed off cus I predicted a Cov win and have Van Ewijk on my FPL.

To make this match up exciting it should be scheduled in mid-winter, rain, lots of dirt, and players going for each others head and not ball. At least this way, there would be excitement. The quality of the game was actual shit, neither side could play clean and beautiful football, but I think it’s the least problem out of this game. Did either side made any upgrade after promoting to premier league? Well, we’ll see at the and of the season but I don’t think so. Overall, even though everyone is hyped about Hull, they can’t go on like this every gw, low-block, wait for spaces to open to counter attack - so that’s why I believe both of them will be relegated at the end of the season. With this start Hull could give good fight but I don’t see a club who Hull would replace in this time being.

Very fun start to the game with a 3rd minute goal from Union. After that two Frankfurt goals by Ebnoutalib, very exciting player, quite typical that theres an good striker at Frankfurt. Pretty decent first half where both teams were evenly matched. Second half i think it was still evenly matched, Ebnoutalib scoring his hattrick was great as well. Hes truly special. Got tense near the end though with Union scoring the 2-3 and getting quite a few chances, with eventually scoring a 93rd minute equalizer too. Quite enjoyed Frankfurt their performance, played pretty decent with Ebnoutalib being the clear stand out player. Union Berlin did play good too though so a draw in the end is deserved. Elias Baum and Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab are two players to look out for as well, i initially wanted to add Ebnoutalib to that too but his hattrick means everyone notices him already.
